I really hope Return of the Obra Dinn resonates and grows in popularity for a while with all the word of mouth it's been getting in these year end lists, and with write-ups like this one from a quality duder like John I am sure it will do!
Played this at EGX last year in the UK. Really striking look and fun, floaty controls. Really liked the tilt-shift effect/'Silicon Valley' intro style that the game had. The mouse+keyboard aiming actually seems like the better way to play over twin sticks from the brief demo I played.
@milkman: I agree with you, but it's also not something that I have an issue with as I know that is Jeff's personality.
He doesn't have Vinny's need to be diplomatic when discussing things, and says things in a way that minimises other people's views because he knows that no-one else in that room is going to hold it against him after this. It's one of the reasons why they even broadcast the GOTY discussons, to show these debates in their rawest form with nothing held back.
I can respect that and kind of wish I was able to have that kind of attitude occasionally, as I'm much more like Vinny when dealing with others and try to find common ground/rephrase things to be more palatable.
I guess the only downside to having Jeff's POV when approaching GOTY discussions is that you can end up being less interested in making a convincing argument for others to bring them over to your side, and instead end up being 'satisified' with yourself that you said your piece and everyone else is wrong/missing out for not seeing things from your perspective, which leaves everyone worse off.
Warning Destiny fans, misinformed Destiny facts spouted at certain points. Avoid the triggers that may cause some negative comments if you are having fun with the Rise of Iron update.
I wonder if Vinny has played Thirty Flights of Loving. It's like 20 minutes long but many of the things he liked about this were pulled off expertly by that game/non-game/walking simulator/interactive movie/etc.
Edit: Aaaaaaand I got to the end of the video where he says he has not played it.
@mistah_t Jeff is a secret backseat gamer, and if you watch his body language he is using all his willpower to not tell Brad exactly what to do using his gamer intuition. I love his reactions - if you see his hand cover his mouth that's his tell.
