Game of The Year 2014 Users Choice

I can't imagine 2014 will go down in video game history as one of most fondly remembered years. I was disappointed too many times this year and a lot of games were broken when they were released. Games like Halo: The Master Chief Collection. A game that made me buy an Xbox One and, had it worked, would have been on this list. Got Sunset Overdrive with the Xbox One. I didn't think it looked all that interesting before launch, and I didn't find it particulary interesting to play either. Games like Watch_Dogs that, perhaps competent, wasn't the ground breaking revolutionary next generation game Ubisoft promised. You know what, Ubisoft in general didn't have a great year. Although i liked The Crew more than I expected at least.

That being said, there were still some great games that saw the light of day and this list tells you which ones I liked the best.

Honorable mentions that didn't make the list: Trials Fusion, Pro Evolution Soccer 2015, The Last of Us Remastered, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, GTA V (PS4/Xbox One), Dragon Age: Inquistion, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, Titanfall and Forza Horizons 2.

  • If you had asked me one year ago if I would ever choose a game based on Lord of the Rings as my game of the year, I would have called you crazy. Sure, any other year this might not have won but it would still have been in my top 10. The game is just a mix of Assassin's Creed and the Arkham games with one exception: The nemesis system. The nemesis system is the sole reason why this game feels fresh and new but what a reason. A game anyone should try. Well...the PC and current gen versions. Don't bother with the PS3 and 360 versions.

  • It was not easy for me to choose between this and Shadow of Mordor. Bayonetta 2 is a roller coaster ride and never slows down. The crazy story and the fast paced action gameplay ensured I didn't take this disc out of my Wii U until I was done with it.

  • This is probably the funniest video game I've ever played. Even better, the game is actually also really well made. An interesting battle system and fun quests made this game worth waiting for.

  • It's Mario Kart. That's about it but it's the best one since Mario Kart DS. Perhaps the best in the series. This game runs like a dream, has a fun online mode, local multiplayer and a great selection of tracks. The Wii U may be the weakest console, but Nintendo sure knows how to get the most out of it.

  • I really didn't want any remasters or definitive editions or whatever they're called on my list, but I enjoyed Diablo III on PS4 way too much to ignore it. Great controls, good UI and both online and local multiplayer makes this game one of the best games to get on the current gen consoles.

  • I love the Alien movies. Yes even 3 and, to some degree, Resurrection. Alien: Isolation is almost the Alien game I've been wanting all my life. A bit too long perhaps and the save system drags the game down. That doesn't change the fact that the game captures the atmosphere, the terror and feel of the movie. A great horror game and finally a game worth the Alien name! (Although Alien Trilogy and Alien Resurrection on PS1 weren't too bad...Alien 3 on SNES had something to it as well.)

  • Far Cry 4 is just Far Cry 3 in a new setting. That's the short version but that isn't so bad. Far Cry 3 was an amazing game. Far Cry 4 does not bring enough new features to the table to blow you away like FC3 but it's still a fun experience. It's also a great co-op game that shouldn't be ignored if you like shooting and unleashing wild animals upon your enemies with your friends.

  • I enjoyed Destiny. Even though the story mode was a let down and the game relies too much on replaying missions over and over again, the core gameplay is still fun. Especially when you can play with your friends. That being said, Destiny could and should have been much better. Destiny shows hints of a great game and I hope Bungie can make that game with Destiny 2 some day.

  • An early release in 2014 but none the less one to remember. This is 2D platforming at it's best. Even though it can be brutally hard, and the 2 player co op mode may not be the best way to play it, Tropical Freeze is a great platformer any fan of the genre should play. It looks great and the soundtrack is amazing. Anyone with a Wii U should check this one out.

  • Perhaps 2014's biggest surprise. Nobody really cared much about this new Wolfenstein game, which is fair considering how the last entry fared. However this is a great FPS that shouldn't have been as good as it actually is.
