My favorite part of the QTE fights is how apathetic Ryo seems about punching and flipping dudes. A core tenet of the Hazuki style is just not giving a fuck and being way more powerful than everyone you fight.

@nta_luciana: There's important context here that I'm not getting. There's a world of difference between this person introducing you as a friend to someone else and answering "yes" when you ask. You don't have to divulge those details if you don't want, but you seem willing to share and this is a topic I'm curious about.

I'm also kind of reluctant to reply to your comments to others on this issue, but I feel the need to assure you that it's not a personal failure that someone doesn't want to hang out with you. Some people you just won't be compatible with, and in those cases it's best to move on. Getting too caught up in making someone like you after a perceived rejection can cause you to apply unwanted persistence that ultimately pushes them further away, and can become a vicious cycle if you let it.

@nta_luciana: I can't speak to your situation in particular, but as someone who has been on both sides of this, I can tell you... nothing conclusive. You're just as likely to trigger an anxiety attack by reaching out to someone like that. Even trying to establish boundaries like "tell me if I'm making you uncomfortable" is a boundary-crossing act in itself that assumes some intimacy between you and that person, so you can't expect them to be sending you coded messages or anything. All you can really know is the responses you get.

I will say this, though- friendship is necessarily a two way street. Even being bad at it, I've always put time and effort towards relationships I wanted to grow and avoided ones I didn't. If you're reaching out and they're just not reciprocating, coming at them from a different angle isn't the correction you should make.

Vinny's offhand joke about lunch breaks reminded me that I got fired from a job after about a week for not taking lunch breaks during training. Turns out that an employer that'll schedule you two hours of work a week really won't enjoy having to pay that extra $5 for another half hour.

This particular case probably feels shitty specifically because of the "well, it's his money" argument- if not for the Oculus' crowdfunding efforts it wouldn't have been sold to Facebook, and Oculus has definitely made diversity and empathy a sizable part of its marketing campaign. Just four months ago, Oculus hosted a diversity summit with the express intent of emphasizing the need for inclusivity in VR development and the recognition of diverse perspectives, and Luckey was there to deliver the keynote. His presence there, where he promoted and encouraged ideals he financially opposed in secret, looks rather shady and hypocritical in hindsight. The whole thing has a similar feel to Uber's plans to replace all its drivers- and with them, the narrative that they give hardworking americans a chance to make a buck- with self-driving cars as soon as it's practical. I guess that gets into the weird questions of presumption of ownership through crowdfunding and the problems with buying a product as performance of ideology, but those questions are weird in this case because of the sour taste they left when Oculus was sold in the first place. Now they're back with a hint of neo-fascism in a time of damn near societal upheaval, so it's not unsurprising to see people taking it personally.

Real talk though, I know Jeff has to dance around touchier subjects for presentation reasons, but I appreciate his increasing willingness to straight up call a spade a spade on these issues. People get together in these comments and whine about how the content has been sanitized and things were better Back In The Day, but when you look at stuff like Ryan picking apart Avatar as a lazy white savior story, it's hard to buy into the narrative that anything has changed or that they've "caved" to any sort of pressure. Unfortunately, it's just as likely that it's not so much anything about the site changing alignment and more the world becoming increasingly more slanted, but in either case, they've got my money.

"Not big cyclists, multiple sclerosis people. That's when your spine is curved, right?"

People give Dan shit for looking dumb on camera.

@gregalor: What I don't understand is why you feel the need to make yourself upset like this. If you're enjoying the video then it's successful. If you're not, you're well within your rights to stop watching. I just don't get why the same four or five people are still being salty in the comments after three weeks of this. It's not like you're going to change the outcome or sway the opinions of people who aren't into the game. I'm like legit curious what you're getting out of this or what you're hoping to achieve.

I mean, unless you're enjoying arguing about old games on dead consoles, in which case more power to you I guess.

This video has Dan singing along as Vinny plays guitar and the comments are still back and forth bitching that they're not feeding the cat dried fish or whatever. Can't imagine why Jeff feels the way he does about this game or its fans.
