I just realised I'm very compulsive when it comes to gaming

So I was doing some meditating on my gaming habits, and I realised I'm obsessed about it. I have alot of games (at least, at 14 years old I have a lot of them) but no matter how many I have, I always have my sights set on new purchases. I'll show you my wishlist. I only have a 360 and PS2 at this point.

I have a 60 game wishlist, and all the while, I still have a backlog of six games on PS2 I still have to complete. I'm currently working on Manhunt. Which brings me to another point; my extreme compulsiveness when it comes to gaming. I'm a very laid-back person, I don't worry about anything. Except for stuff involving gaming. Many gamers have a backlog of games they haven't finished, simply because they don't feel like it. I don't feel like playing Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams either, because frankly, I just don't think it's all that great of a game. However, as long as that game goes unfinished, I will feel uneasy about it. When I play a game simply because I feel like it, I always have a thought in the back of my brain telling me: "What are you doing? You should finish Dawn of Dreams!" It's not that I actually listen to the voice, but eventually, it'll lead me to finish Dawn of Dreams, despite the fact that the 7 levels I still have left won't be an enjoyable experience.

However, my compulsiveness isn't just limited to which games I have yet to complete. For example: I'm not a very tidy person, but my room, where my 360, PS2 and SDTV sit is extremely tidy simply because my gaming stuff is there. My games are neatly lined up in shelf under my TV, cables are dustfree and neatly taped or pinned to walls. If one were to look at my room, that person would say I'm extremely tidy and clean. He'd also notice I have a ton of games and material involving gaming, although I'd never buy gaming action figures or stupid collector's items, that's too much for me.

That brings me to my final point: money. I only spend money on two thing: gaming and going out with friends or my girlfriend (who, thankfully, doesn't think that being obsessed with games is a bad quality, she even played Fifa with me once). I receive money for stuff like clothes from my parents, so that kind of trivial stuff isn't an issue. Still, even I stand amazed sometimes when one of my friends buys Rock Band, Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero: World Tour with all their instruments in one go. Then again, his parents have money like water.

So, how about you? Are you obsessed with games like me? Do you spend alot of money on it. Since this is a gaming wiki site, I'd expect plenty of people here like me, so share your experiences when it comes to gaming geekness.

I can relate.  I think waiting, researching, and speculating on upcoming games is almost as much fun as playing a good game...ok maybe not as good, but an essential part of the fun imo of being a hardcore gamer.    I have no probs keeping my gaming in perspective as far as work goes, but I do avoid social stuff at times and hang out and play or read about games, and gaming news, or just BSing with other gamers.  As far as finishing games, if I like 'em, I'll find the time to finish them during the game lulls that always come.  I don't worry about it...it's just some fun times held in reserve I spose.

I have an obsession with gaming. Whenever I'm not playing, I'm on video game websites such as this one.

Yea I can relate. Yet strangely enough even though I buy a shitload of games all the time, my collection has never really grown as large as you'd expect. But I've even gone as far as getting myself into a pretty substantial debt for my gaming hobby.

I'm not too compulsive about anything in real life, I do a lot of highly detailed things like carpentry and baking and oil painting, but I'm pretty relaxed and non-obsessive about them.

A few years ago though, I realized how obsessive I was about games. I'm the kind of gamer that will search every square unit of a map to look for easter eggs and secret areas. If a game counts saves I try to use as few as possible. If a game counts collected items, I get annoyed if I can't find them all. I'm sure I enjoy it on some level, but sometimes, like in Metroid games, I'll backtrack through the entire game just to see if I missed picking up a missile or energy tank. It gets to be drudgery and a huge waste of time. If I find out about a special weapon I missed in a game after I finished, I'll play it again just to get it, even if I didn't even need it to beat the game. Now that I have achievements, I bust my ass to get as many as possible.

Since I realized this, I've actually lightened up about it some. If I find myself doing something repetitive to the point where I'm not even having fun, I'll just let it go and move on, but playing Fallout 3 I've already done every quest and mapped every location and found every special weapon and I'm playing it a second time to get the evil achievements, so I don't think I've changed a whole lot.

On the money issue, my cheapness wins out. I only buy games new after months of research where I'm absolutely sure won't feel like I wasted my money. I will also wait a pretty long time for a game to drop 20 or 30 dollars in price if I'm not totally sure I want it. Otherwise I rent.

My problem is that I have some games that I never completed and a lot of games I haven't "completed."  My backlog of unfinished games is at around 20... but the list grows when I add games I completed, but not 100%... side quests, crap like that.  I need the satisfaction of seeing the best ending, getting the highest score, and obtaining every single item in any game!

I keep where I game neat... but I typically messy it while playing (go through bottles upon bottles of water, I really should just refill the bottles...)

I have to wash my hands before playing and when I start I always feel the need to do it again.

I feel the need to get every single game t if it's the right price. I even own bomberman Act Zero- bought it for $1.50

I never trade in games, it's stupid.

I feel the need to buy every single JRPG on the 360 that seems decent.  I dunno why.  Maybe it's because I bought Blue Dragon thinking it was bad and it turned out to be one of my favorite 360 games and JRPGs that I have.  Same with Lost Odyssey.

Only the very best games of the best are worth the full $60

I feel the need to level up my characters to the max  in rpgs (i frankly dont care about it in stuff like SW: FU)

I have to explore every single area of every single dungeon

I have to reach the maximum experience in Halo 3 (if you play it, you could guess what that means)
