I think the pink medicine that Drew was referring to may be paracetamol? I had that a lot growing up.

The presentation of this game reminds me of those ultra-HD Minecraft texture packs, except the landscape is rounded out instead of just cubes. Navigating the puzzles with that little cursor seems like it would be hell on a controller.

Re: the whole "pretentious" thing: I think one of the reasons people find games to be "pretentious" is because of the way that the "meaning" as it were is obscured to what could be considered the average player. Sometimes these sorts of works really frustrate me because I don't understand why things are written and presented and made the way they are, and it can feel like it's deliberately hidden in order to, I don't know, keep me and people like me away from understanding? That doesn't mean that that is what the developer intended, but it still feels like I'm an uneducated moron for not ~understanding the deeper meaning~; the nature of my life and my education means that I don't really have the knowledge or experience to engage with the work in the way that it seems the developer wants it to be engaged with.

I don't think that when people say that games or books or whatever are pretentious, they're saying that it's actually putting on airs - I think it comes from a feeling of being locked out of understanding something because of the way it's constructed. The easiest way to communicate that feeling is to describe something as pretentious. Does that make sense?

I would be interested in seeing Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style being scientifically ranked. It is a Wu-Tang clan game with FMV in it. I'd also be interested in the ranking and reaction to Thrill Kill, because it sounds so deeply fucked up and awful, but I can't imagine anyone would actually want to play it.

I'm really interested in the incredible cosmic sin the Undertale fandom must have committed to deserve such scorn over almost every other video game fandom.

I feel like the way the staff portrayed Undertale as generic 8/16-bit nostalgia music is outright incorrect - there is a great deal of music in the soundtrack that can't be considered to be "that sort of music".

Here are some examples! Home, Snowy,Waterfall, Memory, It's Raining Somewhere Else, Undertale. Obviously what's done is done and comments won't change a thing, but I think Undertale did get short shrift because it was incorrectly considered to be chiptunes or whatever.

Am I alone in thinking that someone could make the argument that MGS V's inclusion could be chalked up to nostalgia for the licensed tracks? The non-licensed music from MGS V that they played sounded like it could (as was said on the podcast) have come straight out of any Hollywood action movie. I'm very pleased Splatoon won best music, though. The OST in that game complements the game's aesthetic and gameplay so well.

Also, I can't believe Austin talked about wanting to beat up Mettaton. He is a beautiful robot chef actor newscaster and should be treated with respect, love and kindness

I feel like Tales from the Borderlands could have probably been nominated for Best Surprise, but I think only Austin played it and he's already going to bat for games that would never have been acknowledged already. Also, seeing Splatoon get brushed off for Best Looking was a real shame. That game is aesthetically fantastic.
