Dead Space 3 0

There are still some great Dead Space moments to be had in this game, especially in the early going. The zero-gravity space sections especially have a great atmosphere about them. But these few heights are severely diminished by unnecessary gameplay changes. (I hope whoever thought fighting humans with a sorta-cover system was a good idea has been sacked.) The game also feels overlong, and I eventually grew quite tired of fighting the same enemies over and over. It also doesn't help that it's pa...

Tomb Raider 0

Great adventure, though I don't think they quite succeed with the whole "a survivor is born" story arc that they were ambitiously aiming for. But they were admirably close. It's a game that borrows heavily from the Uncharted formula, but it improves the combat while at the same time not quite reaching the same level of spectacle. The game does feel too long, with some unimpressive story padding bogging down the pacing in the later third of the game. There is a great, small moment towards the end...

Bioshock Infinite 0

A fantastic experience. Bioshock Infinite handily recaptures the sprit of the original while forging its own path with a wonderful story and fully-realized characters. The surprises and revelations, most of which you can see coming, don't hit quite the same way as "Would you kindly?" did, but the story's conclusion leaves behind some weighty themes that stuck with me. The experience of reaching that conclusion is near perfection, both from a storytelling and gameplay standpoint, though I wish th...

Assassin's Creed III 0

My playing of Assassin's Creed III mirrored the range of emotions I've experienced through the last few games in the series, though with higher highs and lower lows than what I experienced last year with Revelations. There's still fun to be had here, especially if you've enjoyed a nice long break since playing the series, but there is so much glut and messiness that it's easy to think this series' best days are truly behind it.It's Still FunAt its core, Assassin's Creed III is still fun because ...

Scribblenauts Unlimited 0

Scribblenauts Unlimted continues the series' strengths of providing a creative playground wrapped in a charming package. Nothing much has changed in scope from Super Scribblenauts, but it sure does look pretty when played on the Wii U. But despite its looks, it soon becomes apparent that the Wii U version is esentially a big DS game. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, but I found myself playing it exclusively on the gamepad without even turning my TV on. It perhaps doesn't fully capital...

Call of Duty: Black Ops II 0

There are plenty of legitimate criticisms and negative opinions that can be leveled at the Call of Duty franchise, but for my entertainment there is still no other series making this kind of game with this kind of quality. The fluid shooting mechanics are my favorite in gaming, it's one of the best-looking console games this year, it's super polished, and it's a fun ride. The campaign adds a few new twists with player choice, and they mostly work (though I did end up passing on the boring side mi...
