I really wish Austin had been around for these. I think what he brought to these deliberations is noticeably missing. I don't think Hyper Light Drifter is as much of an afterthought in these discussions with Austin there.
Can somebody help me out here, they were talking about a Cybil game and I can't seem to figure out which one, I'm trying my Google but any spelling of Cybil I can think combined with 'video game' or whatever gets me characters from other games, but not the one they are talking about. I'd appreciate if someone could help me out, is it on steam? Some indie devs website? Where can I find this thing?
@chunnnnnnn: Those quotes are interesting. I suspect that having Jeff harp on the game regularly may have worn down the others around him. Had Witcher come out later in the year it might have avoided that, but that's also an issue with these sort of things. The further removed you are from the experience, the less likely you are to leap to its defense.
I suppose that it could be argued that the inability for Witcher to stick in their minds could be seen as a knock against it, but it is an odd contrast that it's spoken of so fondly in previous award categories. Honestly, these awards always come down to a horse race. Witcher just had the misfortune that its biggest advocate didn't put up much of a fight.
Austin saying that roguelikes have no understanding of how to end and naming FTL wounds me deep. I'll forgive him because he mentioned Netrunner in his defense.
