A short list of things I am doing!

Hello friends.

I figured that my current pile of things which never gets smaller might be of some sort of interest. It's certainly diverse enough.

No Caption Provided
The above contains vidja games!

Beautiful Katamari: This game is good, and all kinds of crazy, but...the controls are kinda too loose. I can't manage shit, and I find myself strafing FAR too much.

Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations: This game is just the fucking best. I'm up to case 3 now. The Pastry Chef makes me feel awkward, but it's all good. If you haven't played this, feel bad at missing some of the best writing and comtamporary adventure gaming in recent years.

Persona 3: Fes: Good game, what else needs to be said about it? Going for a perfect social link run in Newgame+

Final Fantasy 12: This is okay, in a weird way. Not sure how I feel about the combat. It's either balls easy, or megaman hard. Spiking difficulty curve makes me play one week on, one week off

Shadow Of The Colossus: Same story as FF12. Great, expansive, you've heard it all before. Really enjoy it, but it's a bit tricky. Add to the fact that upscaling on my TV doesn't do it any favours :P

No Caption Provided
The above contains movies/TV.

Metropolis: The original is one of the best Sci-Fi films I've ever seen. I'm sure the anime remake will also rock.

Casshern: This film was stunning the first time I saw it. Stunning visuals, incredible score, and the entire film is green screen :-S

Ponyo- Latest Studio Ghibli film. Borrowed it from a friend who imported it. Exciting to see if it's as good as Howls :)

GITS: Stand Alone Complex Season 1: Loved the original Ghost in the Shell movies, really ahead of their time in the way that Akira was, and paved the way for films like the Matrix.

Kung Fu season 1: It's Kung fu. What else is there?

Mushishi (Live Action): It's the live action Mushishi. Great manga, superb anime. I can only hope the film is as good. If you care, it focuses on chapters
2, 7, 9, and 15.

No Caption Provided
The above contains books!

Hound of the Baskervilles: Sherlock Holmes books are good. I hope this is as good as the rest.

Mushishi volume 2: It's Mushishi. It has some great stories in this volume

Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence: The counterpart to the second movie. If you know what GITS is, you probably know what kind of thing the light novel will be. Batous side of the story as far as I know :)

Across the Nightingale Floor: Fiction about Feudal Japan I think. My friend who moved to uni left me a box full of books, this is one I picked at random

Thanks for reading! :D

Ghost in the Shell is great, except for a few of the "stand alone" episodes, but the main story is superb.

Could not get past FFXII's uneven difficulties. One moment I'd slaughter a boss and the next one would smack me down even with several hours of leveling before entering the "temple." I promptly returned the game once I began to fight some of the Judges. Will never return to it again.

On a more positive note, the Ghost In The Shell series is one of the few animes I've been able to get through completely and enjoyed. Some of the episodes can get a bit too convoluted (as well as the plot) and when I look back, I don't know how a show who's episodes mostly consisted of 20 minutes of explanation and 10 minutes of execution held my attention and gained my love but it happened.

You've got good taste. Metropolis is a fantastic piece of work along with the Ghost in the Shell series.

I read Hound of the Baskervilles over the summer for an assignment. I don't read a whole lot of mystery, but I thought it moved pretty well and was (fairly) easy to understand for a century old book.

Me too :p

The thing i try to do is do one thing at a time. In time i'll do most of what i wanted to do. But never all i wanted to.

I have also a very big selection of things to do.

But you have a good selection there!

I'm currently also playing persona 3: fes. I'm at a frustrating boss. :(

Shelved are also the Shadow of the Colossus and Final Fantasy XII.

GITS is nice, but after a while it tired me down a bit, because, despite being good, it kind of drags all the anime around the same suspenseful tone.

Casshern and Ponyo seem promising... I'll search for it.

And also good books.

I agree that The Hound of the Baskervilles is a good novel, amazingly easy to read.

The books from the author Arthur Connan Doyle are very good.

I suggest you just skip FF12. It's not that good.

Gotta love how GITS looks and sounds like TITS, probably to fit the box art :P.

You are probably going to be disappointed by Ghost in the Shell, Stand Alone Complex. It's not nearly as deep as the original (or the sequel), and it's kind of childish. Metropolis is EXCELLENT though.

Beautiful Katamari suhweeeet! Nobody plays that game at all. I can rarely find anyone online. :(

And Ponyo, yes! That movie is tons better than Howl's, and the animation is so fantastic. It seriously is one of the best animated films around.

Count me in as being a FFXII fanatic -- or at least I used to be before I played it to death.

Amongst my many playthroughs were two using solo Basch, and not only is it totally doable, I found it to be a lot more fun. As long as you buff yourself and stay current with equipment, it's not even much harder than having a party. You won't need to use gambits, so that aspect of micromanaging is gone. You're just free to be a dude (or dudette) exploring this fantastic-looking world as you please.

I would LOVE to know how Stand Alone Complex is "childish". I could see an argument being made for it feeling dragged out at times (such as Jeust mentioned) or some of the stand alone episodes being a bit meh (such as Black_Rose mentioned), but "childish"? Are you sure you were watching Stand Alone Complex and not something like... oh, I dunno.... ANY anime that revolves around a typical high school student?

One of the biggest aspects of the series that attracted me to it is the fact it feels very "adult". The Laughing Man is complex and a terrific ride. An entire episode is devoted to Motoko sitting around an online chatroom discussing complex theories about how the Laughing Man came to exist.. or if he exists at all. I found that fascinating, and a weaker story would not have been able to pull off such an episode without it feeling like a boring recap episode, even if it was all new material.

An episode in the second season delves deep into Motoko's childhood and I felt was marvelously done. Then there were episodes filling in some of the backstory for characters like Pazu or Saito which were deep and enjoyable.

I am really boggled and curious as to what makes you feel it isn't as deep as the original. Are you going off the original movie or the original manga? I suppose it's missing the explicit sex scenes that the original manga had... but they definitely make references to it in the show =X

Okay enough about me rambling about GitS! Cool list of things you got there Fallen. It's always cool seeing how Europe gets different box art for a lot of games (though the box for Katamari is the same as ours.. and shadow looks the same but... greener?) Your P3Fes box is better (that pic appears on the backside of or instruction manuals over here), ours is a blue box with a silhouette of Aigis, which is okay, but nothing great.

Totally agree with your FFXII opinion, some of the fights were ridiculous while others were just like "wait.. was that it?". I actually liked the challenge, but the story just wasn't there for me and it felt like a chore to progress through at times. It's not a BAD game... just... I dunno.

I'm gonna hafta look for Casshern, never had heard of it until now.

And whatare these "book" things you talked about. Can you eat them? I can't fathom how a GitS: Innocence book would work. The movie was more an art piece than a movie.... Didn't care for it at all, but it looked gorgeous @.@ I knew they were trying to make an artistic statement more than tell a story when suddenly everyone was driving cars built in the 1930s, the whole city was comprised of Gothic architecture, and there were huge sweeping shots to show off how detailed everything was. But maybe the book fills in all the unanswered questions.

Augh ya got me talking about GitS again!

@torus: Really? The Tachikoma episodes were fucking brilliant in showing how a machine gains consciousness of its own existence, not as good as Ergo Proxy did but still. And their last battle in the final made me shed some manly tears ;_;

@Symphony: I still need to see season two, I want to see the story behind the sniper guy, I always thought he was the coolest character in the series behind Motoko.

@Black_Rose: I totally agree with that final battle (won't go into any spoilers about season 2 since you haven't seen it yet, then, but the tachikomas definitely get a bit of a spotlight at points). And I just remembered the episode devoted to the one "stray" walking with the young girl and learning about things... and even stealing something =X That episode was great. It showed how they were learning to become human as well as Motoko's curiosity and tolerance for them behind her professional facade.

I also agree that Saito was the the coolest character after Motoko (though I do keep a special place in my heart for Batou and his naive chivalry). I'd have loved it if they flushed out his story more, though I'm happy with what I got. The movie did mention a bit about him (eg. further explaining the fact he was second next to Togusa in being the most "human", body-wise) but didn't really expand on his character. Now that I think about it, I'd love to know more about Ishikawa (the brown-haired, bearded hacker member), too. According to the tachikomas, he takes off his beard before going to bed ;P

Edit: Crap... thinking about the ending of season 1, just mentioning that the Tachikomas get the spotlight in season 2 might be a bit of a spoiler... Sorry >.>

"Across the nightingale  floor" is good, overall the "otori" series is really good. I've read all four of them and it was time well spent.  You should read that book first and if you like ninjas (which i relly hope you do) you'll realize that it is the perfect book for you.

I really hated FFXII. The combat (like you said) was way too uneven. The story was boring. And the characters were just awful. Admittedly I didn't get more than 10 hours into it (because I really didn't like it). But this is why I'm not gonna get too hyped over FFXIII... I don't wanna be majorly let down like I was with XII.

@BK- Just kinda shit. The controls are kinda unintuitive. Why it cant just be back forward on left and move on right is beyond me. I have a hard time making it do what I want.

@Mushi- It basicaly tells a number of the stories in unison. It's a lot slower and a lot more drawn out, but if you can find it, buy it, it's badass :)

@Ponyo- I just got an imported Japanese retail copy. It has been in US Theatres

I think the game would be much too easy with just back forward left and right, I think most people struggle with them to begin with, I did but I find them pretty intuitive now...it just takes a lot of rolling, the glitchy nature of the game has been there since the beginning, it's all part of the charm...

@sidescroller: That's what I meant. I did come together rather interestingly (though some connections are difficult, some are pretty arbitrary). It does become a sort of trial and error at times. Some cases were pretty easy but that one just hated me. I'm not cut out to be lawyer...
