You know I had to do it to em

What is otherwise a good mystery story is kind of ruined by the game's attempt at "humor". Nothing wrong with a game injecting a bit of silliness into a serious story but this one kind of overdoes it.

I like how this game throws you into its wacky world of AEWs and OOPs without any warning. Also there's some crazy shit going on with the visuals. Pretty neat game.

Pretty much the perfect JRPG if you ask me. It's rare that after 130 of play-time I still want to jump right back in and start all over again.

Giving it a 5 because it executes what it sets out to pretty much flawlessly. You don't get to see the world this game takes place in with your own eyes but thanks to evocative music, writing, and color design it almost feels like you do.

  • It's truly astounding how a game with so many intricate parts moving in conjunction with one another can work so flawlessly.

  • I have so many conflicting feelings about this game. On the one hand it's more Trails goodness in and that's always a good thing. Not much has changed save for the graphics but it's just as charming as ever.

On the other hand, the story is just massively frustrating. There are so many times when it drops obvious hints that characters are hiding something but everyone just brushes it aside like it's totally normal to whisper ominous comments to oneself. Then, after nearly 80 hours of this, it just ends despite barely addressing any of the questions that are brought up throughout the story. It's such a slow burn without much of a payoff. Hopefully the story in the next game isn't this tedious to play through.

The PS1 era of JRPGs is probably my favorite, but most of those games haven't exactly aged well. The great thing about this remake is that even though it modernizes a true classic, it still captures the feel of games from that era through its quirky dialogue and unique setting.

This is pretty much what a remake should be. It's far from perfect, but it's both a great nostalgia trip and a modern day masterpiece in its own right.

  • Despite being very brief (took me about 3 hours to beat) and relatively simple, this is a very interesting and poignant game.

The graphics are beautiful, and the story is a little convoluted but once you sit down and think about what happens it's actually really affecting. Worth checking out for sure.

One of the most accessible and intuitive MMOs I've played. It gets off to a slow start and the huge amount of content can be intimidating at first but once you get start to make sense of things it becomes much more enjoyable.

This game gets so many things right that other, lesser games try but fail spectacularly to achieve (see #14 on this list). It requires multiple playthroughs but each one adds just enough new information to make the endeavor worthwhile. The plot takes many twists and turns but hands them out at a pace that makes them easy to follow, yet still shocking to witness. Even the fourth-wall breaking elements are subtle and humorous enough that they don't feel cliche or tired.

    Pretty much a modern-day masterpiece.

  • Very unsettling, quick experience. Like a good lynch movie, it feels like there might be some meaning to all the wacky shenanigans but it's all so creepy and surreal that it doesn't need to make sense to work.

  • It kind of blows my mind that a game with so much detail and style could have been made by a developer that I've never even heard of. What I love most about this game is that even though it takes place in a very strange world full of conspiracies and backstabbing, everything makes its own kind of sense. This is a game that could have easily fallen apart in the hands of an unskilled dev, but thankfully it turned out to be a masterpiece.

This game feels unique among adventure games because almost every solution is drawn using solely the player's own deductive abilities. Completing it will make anyone feel like a big smarty pants, even if there are some puzzles which feel a little obtuse.
