The real answer might be one of the songs riffed on during episodes of Beavis and Butthead. For every good song of the era you have 10 shitty songs with bad music videos only made to fill the time slots of an all music television station that is constantly struggling to find new content. Can't get more authentic 90's than that.
One song that I heavily associate with the 90's even though it came out as a single in 2000 was Moby's Porcelain.
One of the only bands from the 90's that remains part of my regular listening today is Alice in Chains. As for which song, I would have to go with Man in the Box:
