Over at the reddit gaming page some guy found Jeff's fake E3 game list  weeks after the original posting and without doing any research, and apparently lacking any critical thinking skills (or a sense of humor), posts it claiming it to be the real deal. Many users, also lacking critical thinking skills, believe it immediately and go wild with speculation.

This is one of the silliest things I've seen in a while. It would have taken less than 2 minutes to verify that this was a joke.  A couple hours after the posting someone finally does the barest amount of research and discovers its a joke, but not before people get hyped.

Props go to Jeff I guess, for creating such a crazy ass list and still having people believe it to be true.

" Dude, what? How late did this thing end up going? "

It ended up going from 10 PM PDT to about 4:30 AM (I believe it was 4:17 AM exactly). So, just about 6 and a half hours.

Yesterday Nvidia released the new 196.75 drivers, which gained quite a bit of attention due to the substantial increases it offered for graphics card (I believe it was 10-30% for all games tested, the page has since been removed). However, today it turns out that this update has the potential to kill graphics cards

...the fans control in this NVIDIA driver is not working properly. This means every single 3D application (i.e. games) running these drivers is going to be exposed to overheating and in some extreme cases it will cause video card, motherboard and/or processor damage. If said motherboard, processor or graphic card is not under warranty, some gamers are in serious trouble playing intensive games such as Prototype, World of Warcraft, Farcry 3, Crysis and many other games with realistic graphics.

  Nvidia had this to say:

We are aware that some customers have reported fan speed issues with the latest 196.75 WHQL drivers on NVIDIA.com. Until we can verify and root cause this issue, we recommend that customers stay with, or return to 196.21 WHQL drivers. Release 196.75 drivers have been temporarily removed from our Web site in the meantime.

Some users have claimed to have found a fix, but so far this is unconfirmed.

I consider myself extremely lucky. I thought it was bizarre when Dragon Age suddenly started demanding 98% CPU and the temperature of my computer skyrocketed. Others have reported that after this happened, there was a burning smell and their computer crashed. Mine seems to be working fine, hopefully no long term damage was done.

My Giantbomb Wishlist:

  • --At least one Quicklook posted every day at the absolute minimum (some of these should by filled by weird/older games, which sometimes make the best Quicklooks, there's only so many new games to do Quicklooks of)
  • --Greg Kasavin as the sole guest on a regular episode of the Bombcast (he appeared as one alongside a billion other guests at a GDC Bombcast, that doesn't count)
  • --Ryan would never get a haircut again

 A man can dream.

Edit: Also on the Wishlist, bullet points that work in comments.

After being spoiled by the massive influx of Quick Looks over Thanksgiving, it was understandable that they would taper off the week after vacation. But if there isn't more GiantBomb video content this week, I'm going to type, angrily.

In that typefest, I will link GiantBomb and no new Endurance Run to the lack of dedicated servers in MW2 and Luchadeer being demon Greg Kasavin from the future.

That is a threat. Don't tempt me.

@girdz: I agree. It is getting a little ridiculous. I never gave it much thought before, but anecdotally, it seems like more and more stores are breaking street dates recently, leaving games available to be streamed/pirated. I don't ever recall it being this bad or frequent before.

Can anyone who has paid attention comment on this?

In the tradition of Borderlands, Forza 3, and Modern Warfare 2, another full game is streaming live weeks before release (*sigh*).

I can't guarantee the steam will be up when you read this, but since at least one store has already broken the street date, expect more early streams of AC 2 to follow soon.

He's not physically moving to a different location, just changing jobs. Sorry if there wasn't enough clarity.

100% yes.  Any form of writing or anything he could fit into his schedule would be great.

Well wishes from Los Angeles. I hope you are happy at your new job!

This may seem silly, but you were the coolest person ever when I was in my teens. I know, logically, you were just an editor at a videogame website, but, even realizing that, you still were a large influence during those years. I'm not sure I could even explain why; and trying to explain would probably just make me sound creepy (but that would probably be the case with anyone trying to explain why they looked up to someone). Still, I hold great respect for your opinons on the game industry and beyond, even as I find games becoming less and less a part of my life. I think everyone would benefit if you could find an outlet for your opinions.

Basically, you haven't been forgotten. While the average Gamespot user of the past (or present) may not remember or care, there are still people who appreciate everything you contributed.

I hope that doesn't sound too sappy. I just hope you realize that you are missed. Good luck!
