I'll stop complaining about the GOTY choice since i already did (it is really bad, but unsurprisng)

BUT

AT LEAST

make it "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PC)"

The game is garbage in it's current form on Xbox One and you know it

@nime: You mean just like Destiny 2 raids?

Anyway, even if you disregard the fact that it is easy money it's still a game (kinda like, sadly, Super Mario Maker turned out) that works best when you are a streamer (or have a V E R Y compatible group of friends around) and becomes A LOT less special when not. It is also probably the most played-on-air GB game except for maybe Yakuza 0.

Anyway, i'm not as mad as i sound, GB sucks at GOTY deliberations & PUBG winning was predictable, it's just sad that so many game press pros (it's not like it's a GB exclusive issue) are willing to overlook obvious flaws when it gets them good content and fun anecdotes (the latter i also got dozens out of the one time i co-oped RE6 with a friend semi ironically, so it's hard for me to see it as a mark of quality) in a year drowning in games with a much greater artistic and (lacking a less pretentious sounding word) historic value.

Huh. Thoughts:

  • That's the 3rd year in a row the most stream friendly game won.

For a year with so many unbelievably good games, the list feels oddly underwhelming.

It's almost as if gaming sites favor games that let you produce endless hours of monetizable content that people can watch without paying too much attention while still getting one or two good anecdotes over something that has more artistry then a bad mod.

Asset Flipping, basically unplayable on Xbox One, never stopped feeling like a mod. Uh, sure.

I'm with the naggers here, after seeing Eurogamer Impressions beforehand and then Brad saying downright wrong stuff and taking wild guesses at others is goddamn annoying for someone who actually gives a shit about the game.

As a subscriber i don't feel like its too much to ask from the guy who talks about it to just pay SOME attention.

Wait, where's the Versus XIII trailer?! That's the whole reason I watched this. To reminisce and relive that moment where I watched this press conference live 10 years ago. Versus XIII was the highlight for me. It was basically my most anticipated game for a good chunk of my lifetime, until 2 years ago, when it was announced that it was no longer the same game and not being directed by Nomura. My interest in it has since dropped drastically.

And it's not even archived on this gametape when it's supposed to be run right after the FF13 trailer. What gives?!

They explained in the first episode that Tapes would often hold back on the truly surprising (final) announcements for either not spoiling the announcement early (if it is direct gameplay capture stuff), forcing the press to make a run to them twice, (perhaps?) making thier hottest announcement more exclusive by giving out footage only to select sources and/or whatever else reason there may be...

Yeah, but this was recorded by GameSpot themselves. Jeff even said they probably had two tape decks running to make sure they wouldn't miss anything. That's why the entirety of Heavenly Sword is on both the end of tape 1 and the beginning of tape 2.

But then the Versus XIII trailer is just straight up cut out... What? Makes me wonder what else was left out of this video.

Uhm...guess i should've watched the episode first perhaps...

EDIT: On Topic: Yay! Sony E3 2006! Truly a memorable and important moment in gaming that deserves punis a retrospective look. Hopefully we'll also get a look back at the 2005 conference...even today i'm not sure if that Killzone Trailer would be possible as playable on current consoles. Also i was really looking forward to two HDMI ports....
