@game_and_art: literally never. i think the last wrasslin’ i saw was when it was WWF in the 90s.

i’m still certain that i’m right however.

Personally, I can't tell myself 'I'm right' on a matter without doing a little research first on a thing, especially after said thing has gone through almost 30 years of changes. I won't tell you what to do, but I'll simply suggest doing a little research into current day WWE. The results might surprise you.

you gotta leave, that’s fine, I understand. But to leave giant bomb and it’s wonderful community for the cesspool of racism, xenophobia, misogyny, and ignorance that is the WWE is the most infuriating and disappointing part of this whole thing. here I was all this time thinking Jeff and Dan laughed at wrestling for its absurdities and thought it was ridiculous, while still finding enjoyment in it. Here I learned that, no, Dan actually legitimately respects the organization, and actually wants to work for it. Extremely, extremely disappointing.

...When was the last time you actually tuned in to the WWE?

Honestly Mike saved this episode with his advice. If only he had spoken up and let Abby know that headshots and kneeshots are the only way to use the stun moves (kick and suplex). She still thinks they are too unreliable to use and just burns through her good ammo instead.

Based from last episode to this one, I'm starting to think Bakalar teamed up with Dan is the issue for these video features. Sorry Bakalar fans but I think he tends to bring out the worst in Dan, which in turn makes for an episode where Dan pisses everyone off. Otherwise they are fine on audio features like podcasts and film and 40s. Weird how that works.

This is why I don't comment often on playthrough videos, because people defend the player of the game to no end and always end up blaming the game instead. The part about Abby using all of her special weapon ammo on regular enemies and then resorting to using her pistol on actual mini-bosses and bosses is just not using video game common sense. You can't call that bad design or "aged poorly" because that still exists to this very day. When she gets mad about it, the game is trying to teach you a very basic lesson about what weapons are best in what situation and she simply ignores it and keeps hitting her head against the wall, fighting the game, until it finally works out for her. The same can be said about her non-usage of flash grenades when she herself saw them work quite well in prior episodes, but she refuses to use them in very obvious situations the game is pointing out to her. Also, Abby not using the very important stun kick mechanic is like playing Vanquish without ever sliding. You're simply making the game harder for yourself by not utilizing it, similar to a knife only run.

The only thing I can give you is that this one chapter sticks out, does suck, and is considered filler. I can't agree with you that everything after the village has aged poorly because this game is pointed at when discussing some of the best well paced games of all time and also one of the most re-playable games of all time. People definitely remember the castle and the island just as much as the village. Like I said previously, with the way she is playing(frustrating herself) she will probably end up hating this game after Act 3 and no one on stream will step up to argue against it. No, the game isn't flawless, but let's not pretend like she isn't in the wrong as much as the game can be sometimes.

After this I don't think she should go back and play Resident Evil 1 with this mindset of 'doing things my way' because that game is way more brutal and unforgiving than this one.

Is Abby the Brad of video games?

e: Wow that's a lot of shitting on Dan. He handles it better than I would.

Dan is successfully taking all of the heat each playdate away from Abby. She never learned that the very powerful kick mechanic only works on heads and kneecaps, thus she considers it unreliable. She un-learned that flash grenades help with the head-creatures and bugs. She still spends way too much shotgun and sniper ammo on regular enemies, leaving her with just a pistol when a chainsaw man or wolverine dude comes around the corner.

She already thinks the game is just okay at this point and is probably going to end up disliking this game in the end, especially with the certain bosses coming up in the later sections and she'll never see eye to eye as to why people consider this game as one of the best of all time. It is very reminiscent of Mega Man X with how it teaches you gameplay mechanics through gameplay instead of hand holding and overbearing tutorials. I don't know if the game should be at fault if Abby decides to constantly fight against how it should be played, but it is what it is. To be fair for this one chapter, it was completely unnecessary padding in the game(villagers coming back in act 2 for no reason) and removing it wouldn't hurt the game a single bit.

tl;dr Abby is Brad if Brad didn't decide to fully learn game mechanics and had luck + 1.

The minute Shepard gets the vision from Object Rho and what happens afterwards feels like a very Total Recall moment and made me think, back then, that the indoctrination theory could have been real. It was such a flip of the switch in terms of everything(especially leading into ME3's craziness) that I was wondering if they were actually trying to stop Shepard from using Rho, but what you see on your end instead is a crew of indoctrinated people trying to kill you from stopping it.

I love getting to see the suffering consequences of Abby going shotgun crazy last time. It was funny hearing Dan say "I wanna tell you to conserve more shotgun ammo but your doing great". But you don't conserve ammo because it makes doing that part easier its because it makes parts down the line easier.

She's been spoiled by REmake 2 and may not understand that a lot of older games punish you for things like this. I thought she might do decently watching how she played last episode, but in this episode you can really see the game punishing her for not utilizing the stun-kick mechanic and for not conserving stronger weapon ammo. On the other hand, this means she might get really good with the pistol, which is an essential RE 4 skill anyway.

For one of my least favorite missions to play, it had my favorite combat music in the entire game. The music also made more sense on harder difficulties.

this must be one of shittiest demo discs of that era lol

As soon as I saw Ecco the Dolphin not work I immediately remembered exactly which demo disc this was because I had it at the time back then and was not pleased with what I came home with lol.

That being said, the fun I had with the Jet Set Radio demo almost saved it alone.

@cloneslayer: Because the conversations are what are actually entertaining. This is what you are looking for https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOIe1bcWAn0

I'm a fan of non-topic conversations as much as the next guy on this website but something about this episode felt off. It was almost like Dan would have legitimately given Alex the controller while him and Mike went in the other room to have conversation. It felt like a guy who was just doing what he was told to get a check and wanting to hurry up and end his shift so he can go to a party he's been waiting to go to. The problem with it appearing that way is that Dan was the one who suggested the feature in the first place. This episode reminded me the most of why Kingdom Heartache was cancelled and I really hope that both Beast and West learned exactly why that series just didn't work out so they don't repeat the mistake that was that show.

There's a lot of time during long plays of games to talk about other elements in life. With 100 minute long videos, and many repetitious sections, I'm happy they're able discuss something other than how frustrating Metal Gear can be.

To me, that's what these Premium videos are all about: letting their personality come through and enjoying the chemistry they've built over the years.

Also it's fun to have other industry people in that know the Giantbomb staff.

Once again, I have no issue with them having non-game related discussions on features. I also have nothing against the guest as he is a good speaker and was entertaining here and on the podcast. However I do feel like there is a balance to their videos where they don't spend too much time on game talk and not too much time on non-game talk, and that balance was lost a bit on this specific episode. There's nothing wrong with admitting that. It happens and this video is a good example of what people mean.
