@negativegray: Nah man that's not it at all! What you see in this video is similar to the demos you got of Monster Hunter where all of your gear was picked for you.

I guarantee we'll still have to build and craft our gear to best suit the battle. This game is going to be GREAT

I've been a fan of this series since MHFU and I really like that they're showing damage now. I also like anything that will make this game more streamlined for newcomers. I remember when 4U came out and people unanimously agreed it was the easiest game to get into and that if you wanted to play MH "now was the time". With this new game coming out, I think it will also be a "now is the time" scenario.

PLAY MONSTER HUNTER, PEOPLE!

@baggykins: I agree that it is not something I focus on when I play games, but maybe that's because It's never really been a problem for me either? As a Caucasian male there literally an abundance of characters in gaming meant to be relatable to me and it is therefore not something I even notice anymore. Racial identity plays a very small part of my life. Black people however, are constantly being underreprecented in gaming and other types of media and it is therefore a much more visible aspect of their experience than ours I would think. I think it's hard to have a discussion or even forming a coherrent argument or standpoint on the matter as a Caucasian, because it is so foreign to me and as much as I try to do this, it will always in some fashion feel like a case study where you are on the outside looking in.

But can you only relate to people who look like you? Can you not relate to Spyro or Garrus or whoever for that sake? - if not then the issue may not be with the characters but rather with you.

Stories are great because we see people overcome things, defeat the odds and whatever, see them grow as a person. I can only see emphasizing on skin colour changing what they are and not who they are.

That said, I would love more diversity of culture in my video games and I can see it slowly approaching, stuff like CD Projekt is a great step for game development in Poland and I can't wait for it to spread.

Maybe I just see things differently with my euro-eyes, I can't rightly know

Bingo. I really do believe it's absurd, and I wonder where that line of thinking came from.

I'm white, and yet I grew up watching Fresh Prince and the Cosby Show; I cried when Will's dad didn't show up and Will had an explosive reaction. I cried when Carlton was in the hospital. I empathized with Theo when he was diagnosed with dyslexia. I laughed my ass off at Will's failure with women. I just...I just don't fucking get this criticism. All the while, I of course knew they were black and I was white and it was a "black show" and I'm a white person, but Jesus, they were all still well written characters. There are plenty of white characters I don't give a damn about! It just depends on the writing.

Yes, black folks may be underrepresented in games, and on the whole I do agree that diversity in art is good for a number of reasons, but can you REALLY not relate because it's a different skin color? You may seriously need to reconsider some things.

I also appreciate it on the whole that they don't go into it.

They do though, i mean Dan Ryckert literally created a persona who is some sort of mascot for America...

Well now come on. Dan Ryckert making a persona who is a mascot for his country is different than him - or anyone else - race baiting and picking sides with the right or left. The former is hardly "getting into it", It's just a playful thing.

@valeo: I apologize if I came off as condescending, as those certainly weren't my intentions.

On a semi-unsarcastic note, I appreciate that Giant Bomb is almost never political - and I say that as someone who talks about and reads about politics on a frequent basis. Especially coming off that whole gamergate nonsense, I like that the crew doesn't much get involved. I think it's just not who they are. I think it'd be in poor taste.

Gita, I must respond to this, as I don't entirely agree with your position. You say that your parents told you that, as a black person, you have to work twice as hard to get half as far, and I'm sorry. I'm sorry your parents fed you that growing up. Whether that's true or not - and particularly these days I don't believe it to be true - it's unfortunate that you were instilled with that mentality throughout your youth. Imagine if your parents had said the opposite...Imagine how you might look at the world differently.

You say people said mean things to you in high school that had to do with your race - sorry honey, but that was high school. Everyone was a bunch of little shits, even if they were "unconsciously racist" or something. I was made fun of for having long hair. My middle eastern friend - who's really well off, mind you, and his parents immigrated from Iraq in the 80s - was always called a terrorist. Hispanics were made fun of for eating tortillas and were called beaners. Kids suck. Sometimes, adults on the Internet suck, too. People can suck - although I believe in my heart of hearts people are oftentimes more beautiful than they suck - and that's just how it is.

You thinking it's because of the color of your skin is a sad, sad way to live your life.

Yo that Behringer X32 that Drew talks about at the beginning is fucking SWEET! I use one for sound at my church and the FX on that thing are killer, and it's crazy intuitive! Cool to know that's the board the dudes are using

@ripelivejam: They can honestly just use a low cut at about 60Hz(maybe upwards of 80 or 100?) and it will get rid of most of the problem, and almost no audio will be compromised. Maybe some of the in-game audio won't be as boomy, but I'm sure they could apply the cut to just the microphones.
