@Gaff: Firaxis doesn't do "cheats." They haven't said Sid is a cheat. Please read, I implore you. Also, why would they put effort into making something that you can just break the game from the beginning with. What is the point of the game if you are given an option to play with zero difficulty.

It's the same reason you didn't have the option to start with all of the gear in Dark Souls. It defeats the purpose.

Ya they should just have one difficulty setting too because why would anyone not just play on easy mode with cheats every time right?

Gearbox should have a message pop for that chest, seemingly a lot of people just assumed it was a new kind of chest. I personally blew mine early because I somehow managed 3 early game legendary drops and had an out of wack sense of how rarity works in this game (yet to see a purple in the wild so, weirdly I guess).

Gave myself an extra because I don't feel like signing up for whatever shift is.

From my experience of trying the siren, zero, and the gunzerker I would say the siren seems the best class to solo as. Two of her first tier skills increase shield capacity/decrease recharge delay and another gives you health orbs, her skill allows you to lock out the most powerful enemies while also having a quick cooldown, and given the focus on her elemental powers and the increased importance of that in BL2 I suspect she is in fact the most powerful single player character. Also with the harmony tree you can easily respec as a healer if you find you wish to do multiplayer later.

@Captain_Felafel: What GPU are you using and what is your average framerate between high and medium?

GTX 580. On Medium, with everything else maxed, I get average of 55-60, unless there's heavy fighting, in which case the framerate can drop to the mid 40's sometimes. On High, that average framerate drops by about 5-8 frames.

I'm on a 670 and went through a similar thought process to you. Ultimately I decided to stick with high, the extra debris is just too fuckin cool. Get on boombooms turret right near the start and just start unloading on shit and you should see a pretty huge difference. I haven't done that specific test, but barrel goo and grenade debris and shotgun blasts are pretty obviously different (just make sure you restart the whole game after changing the setting). It's not different I don't think, just more of it.

You should also try setting it low because this game runs about as well as BL1 when the physx is low. I assume this is just keeping basic stuff like the random cloth fluttering about because it seems to completely remove the goo and debris. However I went from occasionally 45 fps hit to always being 60 or above. In a fps that can make the game a lot more fun to play, but I personally find the visual feedback worth the frames.
