@xxizzypop: I agree completely with the smoke and mirrors bit, I guess we just expect a bit more from a HD collection, kinda how Metal Gear HD Collection set the bar. Regardless of flaws though, as you said, the game still has 'that' feeling and all in all the core gameplay was untouched. Still happy with my purchase.

@handlas: As long as by pause you mean hitting SELECT button instead of going into your inventory then you are fine.. I thought going into the inventory would stop my time but boy was I wrong my first playthrough. It ended up being something like 20 hours+ LOL.

I was the same age as you when this game first came out and I too tried playing it and just couldn't, something about it, the fog, the music... pretty much everything combined with the monsters just freaked me out. It didn't freak me out enough to not watch my brother play it though, which I did. Ever since I got it last week it has just been a HUGE nostalgia trip for me everything I pop it in the system and start back in on it. Sadly though, the only problem with the game is that they 'cleaned' it up a bit TOO much. With what the fog did (not just setting the mood and scenes for the game) by covering up landscapes to help with performance back in the PS2 day... good in some spot bad in others where it was touched up. Still enjoying the game immensely despite the flaws of the port and glad I purchased it. Still have Silent Hill 3 to play and achievement hunting in 2.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I have because the feeling was still there for me from what eleven'ish years ago?

Pretty impressive, I might give it a go and pop up my score soon.

@handlas: The achievement is to beat the game in 3 hours or less, I'm aiming for that achievement atm. :P

Just completed the Boat Scene, it's just as bad as the PS3 video above on the XBOX360.

@CptBedlam: I'll confirm if this part is on the XBOX360 as well later, I'm about an hour from that segment, I'll be sad if so :(

Edit: and that is true, it looks like in the past ten years since Silent Hill 2 that the construction crew showed up and repaved the roads.

@CptBedlam: I'm not arguing that it's not a lazy port, or that the fog looks any better than the original while playing. I'm just saying that it is not reduced in Silent Hill 2 gameplay as this picture shows in a cutscene.

@groin: As I've said in previous threads of this forum, the reduced fog only happens through Computer controlled moments like that, the fog comes right back in once you gain control of your character. The CG scenes still have the same amount of fog and blurriness as the original as well as the normal gameplay of Silent Hill 2. People need to understand that the fog only gets reduced with computer controlled scenes such as this and the Rest Stop at the beginning of the game.

Edit: And there is a glitch in the game where once you skip a cutscene, slowly but surely over time with how many times you skip cutscenes the lips become more and more out of sync as the game goes on, so I suggest not skipping them until (hopefully) a patch comes out. So far that is the only real problem with the game that I have encountered. Mind you this is for the XBOX360 version of the game and only Silent Hill 2 that I have played, haven't ventured into Silent hill 3 yet.

As I posted in another thread, I reached many of the parts in this video for Silent Hill 2 where fog was reduced and it is only reduced in very small parts when the game controls your character in a cinematic such as walking out of the rest stop and talking to Maria on the peer. Shortly after both of the instances the fog is right back where the original had it. Fog is not reduced at all so far in the Silent Hill 2 version gameplay wise, only controlled cinematics (not the CG cinematics).

Edit: Played on XBOX 360 version.
