It's hard for me to side on the equality and the "offensiveness" of this. I personally don't find it offensive, although it is not something i would spend my money on. If you do, good for you, it's not my place to make judgement on something such as this. We all have strange quirks and fetishes (if you don't agree you're probably living in some kind of fantasy land) and if this is what tickles your fancy, more power to you. The fact that Deep Silver made this? WHO FUCKING CARES! That's up to them, if you don't want it don't buy it. Simple as that.
On the whole gender equality...I think it's time to get off that horse. Women if you want equality, then get a lot of your gender to stop going to bars and getting free drinks because they dressed in something that vaguely resembles clothes. Many women use their looks on a regular basis, to suit their needs. As a man if we don't try and be aware of this, we could fall into this trap. As a straight male, it's hard to deny the fact that breast, and butts attract you. This is something that is hardwired in our DNA, whether it's for more primal reasons or not, as a man you cannot say it's not there. I would love gender equality both ways, in all aspects of life, but this is a ridiculous dream. It's ridiculous to me because we are different. We think different, we act different, our bodies are built differently. That is undeniable, so to think there can be equality among such vastly different things is not going to happen.
Lastly the fact the video game companies target males it not surprising. The male audience is definitely the majority, so from a marketing standpoint it makes some sense. Also the violent/sex driven advertising i could see trying to bring in a larger audience (IE the size of audience COD brings in). As a gamer I consider myself in the "Core" category. I don't really need the advertising. I go to sites such as Giant Bomb and Joystiq, and use word of mouth to find the games I want to play. So I feel these marketing campaigns aren't targeted at me, but rather a broader more casual audience who may be brought in by these things.
