@lab392: Logically, I know this. It is but a part of the ol' anxiety/depression stuff that swirls around the noggin, just comparing of opinions and thinking that it can't possibly be a difference of opinion - it's me being just that little bit broken :)

@tlchwi02: The annoying part is that, the people whose opinions I 'trust' more, don't really write anymore lol. Brad & Jeff both elucidated what makes a game great, and their enthusiasm for a game says a lot qualitatively, but sadly, I missed anything they said about it MMS. I'm finding PC Gamer and Rock Paper Shotgun pretty reliable, but they were both effusive about MMS too...

I get that reviews are only one person's take on a game, and that they're entirely subjective, but I feel there's almost something 'wrong' with me or my tastes when game reviews are exceedingly positive and effusively praising a game, but I can't see the same game they're talking about. Is this something anyone else feels? The most recent example for me is Marvel's Midnight Suns - so many positive reviews that are very glowing, and I don't feel I'm seeing the complexity/depth those reviews talk, and instead only see a not-roguelite CCG with AAA-polish and some exploration elements between fights. I don't know what I'm missing, and it kind of bugs me, as I know peeps worked hell of hard on this thing, and it's fun enough, but with the number of games coming and older games I haven't touched, 'fun enough' isn't cutting it... Am I the only one who feels this way?

I feel like I'm missing something a lot of other people are seeing - I enjoy the combat well enough, but it kind of feels more like a AAA Fights in Tight Spaces, particularly with no ability to utilise cover or negate incoming damage, unless you get a shield card. I actually really like the wandering around the Abbey for now, but I'm also about 15ish hours in, and it feels like it's going to be a long slog of a game. I fell off Daemonhunters for a similar length issue at the time I was playing it, as I wanted to play more 2022 games and figured Daemonhunters could work like my XCOM 2 playthrough, but playing Daemonhunters is more entertaining/interesting (also a bit more annoying at times because of the limits on squad size and the numbers you run into), but I don't think I like Midnight Suns, or I'm not as impressed with it as I thought I would be based on the reviews.

I think Hard West 2 is actually the best of 2022's tactics games, personally...

I've found that when I've asked people questions on Twitter, I don't get an answer because I feel that I don't get my voice to the person through the void of Twitter garbage people being terrible etc. I will give it a go though, cheers

Some may think this is stupid, but I've avoided this game because of the transphobic/homophobic 'jokes' in it, and the devs reversing their decision to patch them out under the guise of 'censorship'. I don't want this to devolve into an argument over the absolution of free speech, but I'm curious if... was skipping what seems to be a very good 'boomer shooter' (which is such a lazy-arsed label) because of a 'principled' reason was a step too far? Sometimes I question the conviction behind my decisions, other than 'it seems like the right thing to do'. Is there much of that bullshit in there and has it since been removed? I don't feel great giving groups like this money if they're still sticking to their 'Hur-hur-hur can't you take a joke? Derp free speech!' line...

Watching Kahlief Adams on the GMM archive, and he talks about working a 9-5 - what else does he do? His Twitter bio doesn't seem to suggest what it is, but I'm just curious as to his other job (myself being on a podcast/YouTube channel/streaming while also being a teacher...).

I've been a premium subscriber from the start, but these layoffs and the way they were handled are the last straw for me - I've canceled my membership. I should have done it in the aftermath of Jeff leaving, with everything about how that went down, but I can't support this anymore. I apologise to @janman, @rorie, @jerf, and Grubb (and shouts out to @unastrike and @voidburger on what is such a shitty day for them - hope y'all land on your feet safely), as they've been doin' dirt in the face of a whole bunch of shit over the last 12 months or so, but it doesn't feel right to support the bullshit that's happened/been happening with RV/Fandom... Should've maybe pulled the trigger sooner, but damn it all if it just doesn't sit right anymore...
