We came, we saw, we kicked it's ass!

So i finally finished up Ghostbusters the video game, had been working on it prior to getting FFXIII. (heck it seems like this is clean up week or something).  Sadly the game is pretty mediocre with some pretty frustrating sequences there at the end.  It tries to play like a 3rd person shooter but the controls are just not there and it doesn't feel as smooth as some of the higher tier games.  It also tries to play itself off as the 3rd Ghostbusters movie, which is all well and good but honestly i would have rather just had a new movie.  All the actors are there sans Rick Moranis and David Marguiles but that's okay, sometimes they hit their beat and sometimes they don't.  I think a full movie would've have given them more room to breathe as actors, games are a different beast from films and they don't directly translate to each other.  Again it was a game i felt i was struggling with bad gameplay to get to the next story piece and enjoy some Bill Murray and Dan Akroyd action.  Oh well, least it's out of my way now. Next is Gears of War 2, having watched the Gears 3 trailer i know want to know what the heck is going on cause the 3rd games looks like it may be epic in terms of storyline. I may be giving it too much credit but i'm okay with that.

Self-Actualization!

So just finished Psychonauts, sat down and pushed my way through the last bit of the game.  I have to say that was the most aggravating final level that i've ever experienced.  The platforming gets so precise and taxing at the end that I definitely felt the old urge to hurl the control across the room.  I got through it though and the story wraps up fairly well, though i wish they talked a bit more about his dad. I'm pretty sure most will share the sentiment that i would rather watch this game then play it, genuinely funny dialog and situations make you look forward to every conversation.  I just find the gameplay in Tim Schaffer games (like Secret of Monkey Island) tedious and almost in the way of the plot, which is too bad cause the man can write.  Still glad i played it, i think i did wait too long to check out Psychonauts it remains worth playing.  I suppose i don't know where i'll go next, maybe work on getting some S-Ranks till i get the funds for a new game. Or i may get Final Fight: Double Impact, we'll see.

Mental block

So kinda hit a wall while playing psychonauts, just finished the boardgame level with Fred.  While going through this i've found the game to become a bit tedious and i just wanna get through the mediocre platforming to the story bits.  It's still a really funny game, but it's slow to the point where the game has become a chore. I'll still work to finish the game but it's sad i have to push myself to finish a game.  It's never a good sign when a game feels like work rather then fun, only the excellent writing keeps me going. perhaps it'll pick up before the end....

Tim Schafer is a funny man

So been playing some Psychonauts and that game is pretty awesome, sad that i didn't get around to it till now.  As the bombcast has said (and I agree) it's really hard to do comedy in video games and Psychonauts definitely pulls it off with the writing of Tim Schafer.  I'm up to the milkman level right now and having a blast with all the craziness going on. The platforming stuff is kinda meh, the combat i don't really like, but i'm digging the story and the weird little jokes that pop up. So far the best part has been the lungfish level, go Gogglor!  Other then that, picking up my copy of the new Coheed and Cambria album and pretty excited about that. The are pretty much my favorite band of all time and i am dying to see how this last album will turn out. Plus i get the special edition so i got the making of the album, the novel, and the other little goodies.  Woo!

Beat FFXIII and on to Psychonauts

So finally got around to beating FFXIII and honestly, what a let down.  The game is definitely an uneven experience and right now i'm not sure how i feel about it right now.  The story takes a long time to get going but once it does it really grips you...only to let ya down at the end. The Battle system also takes sometime to ramp up and then it's actually one of my favorite new battle systems (no judgement ring system though).  I'll go into more detail in my review cause i think i'll try my hand at doing that.  At first i was gonna just play some old games and had jumped back into Ghostbusters before it locked on me, now i'm gonna play Psychonauts. I've always wanted to play it and had $15 bucks lying around so now it's downloading and i'm just waiting for it to finish.  Still i wish FFXIII had a bigger payoff, probably the most disappointing ending to an RPG i've seen in a long long time.

Lovin the new endurance run

Ha, so still haven't beaten FFXIII yet, the ending is longer then ya think with a lot of tedious battles.   Today I realized that the new dual Endurance has really sucked me in again.  Idk, i think it's the Mystery Science 3000 feel that really brings it all together for me since i loved that show.  I also like how there are two teams this time, it's kinda interesting to see who makes what joke.  Not gonna lie though, kinda like it Old School and prefere Vinny and Jeff or Brad and Ryan. (I still enjoy you both though! Don't hit me Ryan!)  I'm interested to see how this goes cause Deadly Premonition is freaking ridiculous.  It's Saturday night so i probably won't be playing video games, (go drinking)  but i may beat FFXIII tomorrow, heck i might even try my hand at writing a review.  I think this Quest system has been good about getting more people involved in the community aspect of this site.

For the points..but just might update it regularly

Well you know part of me is writing this for the points (go new quest system), the other part of me is writing this to get writing again since it's been awhile.  So right now i'm currently playing FFXIII every now and then, though my ardor for it has waned as of late. I"m pretty much at the end of the game, just gotta get to the last boss but i've found that the game has become tedious at this point and i'm really pushing myself to finish.  It's definitely a weird beast to be sure, too forever to ramp up but then got awesome when it opened up completely, but then just fell apart when i ran out of new things to do and the battles became all the same.  Idk, maybe i'll give a full impression after i beat it, i probably should just go finish it up since i'm like right at the doorstep to the end.  In fact...see ya.
