It just occurred to me: do you guys have any plans to check out the Dragon Ball Z movies? There's like twelve of them and most of them... don't really fit into continuity at all, but most of them are fun.

Cell didn't have time to drink everyone else. Anime likes to stretch out moments for ages for dramatic effect. Eventually you just kind of have to accept that things that weirdly take forever in anime are usually going to be treated like they happened in two seconds. Talking, especially, seems to take place in a pocket dimension of time. It's baffling. Also, the Androids are specifically components to Evolve Cell like a Pokemon, which is a much bigger deal for him than absorbing individual people.

'Good night, sweet prince' comes from Hamlet.

This episode doesn't show up in the list of previous episodes on the right, in either page.

I think Dan's managed to misremember and misname, like, every single thing in this episode. Possibly all the episodes, I'd have to go back and check.

Re: Dinosaurs

It's a fantasy cartoon world that looks like earth. It has no basis in our reality, and no internal consistency. The writer made it up as he went along, and at the start it was just about a boy who fought monsters and weirdos while looking for Dragon Balls. There is zero depth or backstory at work in regards to the world. There's a motherfucker in the original show who fights Goku with power armor mech suit.

Yamcha was a desert bandit that Goku fought, and eventually became his friend and trained with Master Roshi.

Tien is an assassin from Roshi's rival's training school, who tried to kill Goku, but was convinced to abandon his killing ways, became Goku's friend, and trained with Master Roshi.

This happens a lot.

None of the fighters can seemingly be injured by bullets. The very first thing that happens in OG Dragon Ball is Bulma shooting Goku in the face.

I wish there was a way to make sure you can see my comment, because I think you'll like this bit,

You're right that Kami, the other green man, is the god/guardian of earth. The thing is, in OG Dragon Ball, they never established them as aliens. As far as the show, at THIS POINT, is concerned, Kami is God, and Piccolo is a literal demon. Kami trained Goku to fight Piccolo Jr., and in that whole fiasco, Piccolo beat Kami, and Goku beat Piccolo.

As crazy as this show gets, these two were already STRONGER THAN GOD in the first episode, where Raditz showed up three times stronger than either of them. So. Keep that in mind, I guess.

P.S. Piccolo wants to kill Goku for revenge for his father, and subjugate/rule humanity, since that's what his dad wanted him to do. He doesn't want these Saiyan upstarts showing up and butcher/conquering the planet instead of him, plus the Saiyans will probably make a point of killing him and the other strong guys when they show up.

@dstopiaThe original Dragon Ball gets progressively less comedic, and more and more action and adventure based as it goes, but the first season or so really is basically just a gag-anime. A weirdly perverted one as well, most of the humor revolves around sexual misunderstandings or perverts. Sooner or later villains who actually kill people show up, though, and it's basically an action show by the time King Piccolo shows up. The dub is missing a lot of cool music, though, which leads to a lot of awkward silences when the original version was trying to create an epic or magical moment with a song with vocals.

@schindigg: Editor's note: The first season doesn't hold up super well. Things get way better around episode 13. MAYBE start there, or lower expectations until then, once you pass the relevant point in Kai.
