5 franchises that need to be resurrected

These are some franchises that have died, and need to come back. They're in no particular order, there are certainly games on this list that I value above others, but I don't really want to prioritize them.

List items

  • Let me just say that I am a gigantic Metroid fanboy. Super Metroid is in fact, my favorite game of all time. But I can say with absolute certainty and disappointment that this series is, at the moment, dead. Inevitably someone at Nintendo will have the unique and absolutely-never-suggested before by anyone idea to make a new 2D Metroid game on consoles, and it will probably be great. But at the moment, this series is dead.

  • This and Super Metroid are my two favorite games of the 16-bit era, and Strider is something that needs to come back. Given Capcom's penchant for reviving old franchises, it is something of a minor miracle that a new Strider game for XBLA, or maybe a 3D Ninja Gaiden clone that gives Strider Hiryu a Mohawk haircut and has a bizarre plot point involving Hiryu's girlfriend inside his sword hasn't been released yet. But hopefully that will happen, because this game is great.

  • This is a game where you smash bikers off their bikes with clubs. Where did it go?

  • Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast is personally my favorite Star Wars game of all time, and one of the best action games of all time as well. So I ask why there hasn't been a third game? It would probably be wise to have a different main character, because Kyle Katarn has been done to death by now, but ti could definitely work out. Also interchangeable with Star Wars: Battlefront, which also could have a great comeback.

  • One of the pioneers in stealth-action games, Thief was unique in encouraging you to keep people alive. Indeed, it is far more satisfying and rewarding to leave guards puzzled and perplexed as you sneak away instead of leaving them dead. Apparently Thief 4 was in production for a while, re-imagining series main character Garret in the modern day. As long as the inevitable Assassins Creed influence wasn't too pervasive, and the game was still in first person,
