Listening to the Bombcast is too much work sometimes (Blog post)

  • It's usually 2 hours long.
  • Paying attention is harder than it would seem.
  • Can't really play games while listening to it.
  • Can't really do homework while listening to it.
  • Always fall asleep before it's over.

 Anyone else agree?

Just to make things clear, I do not hate bombcast. The problem for me is finding the time. I know I don't have to listen to it all in one sitting, but I just can't stop it while I'm listening, it's too good! It's kind of an "all or nothing"  thing for me.

Fortunately, listening to the BC while doing challenges in SFIV seems to be the ideal combination for me. I don't have to pay attention too much in the game, and I don't miss what the crew has to say either.

I listen to the Bombcast while playing stuff like Peggle and Plants vs. Zombies, so it's pretty easy to pay attention to both.

Just get a good game that doesn't require a lot of attention to be enjoyed. :)

I usually don't find it a problem when you spread it out during your week. I listen to usually 2 - 4 podcasts a week (moreso 2 now, since the others are on break), and it really helps the time go by when you're on the bus, waiting for an appointment, walking/running/exercising in general.

I personally like the length for that reason. It helps me take my mind off things when I'd be doing something otherwise boring.

I listen to the Bombcast while playing SFIV and I listen to it while fishing so I hit both the extremes. I don't find it too hard to get through it but I do zone out for about 50% of the convosations so I listen to it again.

I agree, I can't listen to it and play games at the same time, and I do fall asleep if I listen before bed. I tend to zone out most when they're talking about how they previewed an upcoming game that I just don't care about, like Starcraft II. I don't mind listening to them most of the time because they often get wildly off topic, which is funny, so it evens itself out in the end.

I listen to the bombcast while playing video games all the time, and in the case of Dead Space and sometimes Penumbra, got me through them because I'm a sissy.

It takes a certain type of game to listen to podcasts while playing.  For example: Fallout 3 and Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts.

Skate 2. Perfect game for my Bombcast listening.

I'm going to listen to it this week as I grind my way through the Red Faction: Guerilla achievement where you have to rack up 25 million in Wrecking Crew.

I agree. I mean it's enjoyable, but sooner or later I just start skipping around. I mean If I start to do something else while listening to the bombcast I can't concentrate. Or if I do focus on something I usually start to not pay attention to what they're saying so then when they start laughing I go backwards to hear what they were laughing about.

Exactly how I feel most of the time. I get pumped to listen to the new Bombcast, but zone out the minute they start talking about some game I'm not interested in.

I dunno, I wish they would do more of those "single topic" bombcasts (like when they did Red Faction, MGS4, etc) because then I know right off the bat if it's worth listening for me.

I practice bass, or play The Conduit online while I listen. If not one of those I'm in bed. If I know I'm listening to the Bombcast I usually go to bed an hour earlier than normal, that way it's a little more engaging for me, like reading a book for an hour or two before sleeping.

@Jolly_Lolly: Try thinking about what they are saying and forming your own opinions about the topics discussed, maybe if your mind stays active you'll stay awake also. If you don't care for thinking or opinions I'd say your are better off sleeping.

yep, pretty long, right now I can handle it, I still have no school. the atention problem happens to me sometimes but its easy to solve. I can play game while I hear it, it just has to be a game that doesn't require much attention such as a killzone match in wich you just have to kill (I also turn off the volume of my TV). Doing homework while listening to it is imposible. And about you falling asleep, when do you start hearing it?, try to save the podcast for a week-end.

I typically listen to it while playing sports games, especially if I'm doing a franchise mode thing.  Also before bed, and yeah, I do usually fall asleep, but I just pick it back up the next day

I usually listen to podcasts in one sitting and do nothing else. I get sucked in. Not to say there hasn't been a podcast I've lost interest in, it can happen, but most of the time I'm disappointed when it ends-two hours already?

Didn't realize stating an opinion was against the law in these parts; and I never said I disliked the BS, I've listened to at least 10 from start to finish.

I disagree, the length is never an issue for me. Sometimes they can go on about something I have no interest in... and that's ok I just skip passed that conversation. Two hours is about right, I think if they have more than two hours worth of stuff to say then it should go over that by all means.

There's also no need to listen to the whole thing in one go.

My issue is that I can't just skip to specific segments like I can with video casts such as Bonus Round. If there's a part I don't care about I can skip around in the mp3 till I find the next subject, but finding the right spot can take as long for the current boring subject to end.

I'm trying to get on the routine of listening to it every week. Which reminds me, I still have to download this week's episode.
