  • This is another game which the prequel was included in my top 10 list two years ago in 2009. Arkham Asylum made it to number 3 back in 2009 simply because it took my favourite fictional character and gave me a quality video game experience in the characters world that I know and love. As stated below Uncharted 3 didn't take number 1 because it failed to top it's predecessor, with Arkham City the exact opposite is the reason it's my GOTY. I struggle to find an area in which this game didn't deliver for me. Visually I felt it had the right dark tone, the soundtrack was fantastic and the story was done very well even with including so many well known characters. The combat is something that I could not stop trying to perfect in the campaign and challenge modes, and sneaking around and scaring henchmen with the wide variety of gadgets made this the best Batman experience ever in my opinion. My excitement for the third installment in this series could not be higher and for all of those reasons, this is why it's my GOTY.

  • Two years ago when I made my first top 10 list, Uncharted 2 took the number one spot. Uncharted 2 was the type of game that I showed to people who didn't even play games. It was the representation of my hobby at the highest level in my opinion. These types of games are the reason I love the industry as much as I do, and although Uncharted 3 was a very similar experience to Uncharted 2 it's still a fantastic experience. Once again the characters, the action, the set pieces and the visuals were all top notch and playing though it is something I found hard to stop. This game would of been higher on the list, however Naughty Dog almost set the bar too high for themselves with the last game. Uncharted 3 is a great representation of this industry, but too similar to Uncharted 2 to call it GOTY.

  • I knew before making this list that Portal 2 was going to be on here, however I struggled for a long time to decide where. Ultimately I feel this game deserves the number 3 spot because although I do not feel this game is groundbreaking or amazing, I can not find anything truly bad to say about it. Down to it's core this is a puzzle game, I have always hated puzzle games for the longest time but this game was different. I feel like the puzzles were extremely clever and challenging at the same time and the personality of it all makes going from one white room to the next very entertaining. This game deserves to be played by pretty much everyone, regardless of their gaming taste, and the fact that Valve made Portal 2 a 8 hour plus puzzle game that didn't lose its shine towards the end says it all for me.

  • Although Gears of War never seemed to reach same heights of Halo or COD, it is still a trilogy to be respected. Gears of War 3 did a fantastic job of closing out this story with another game that looks fantastic, plays well and just feels like an extremely well made game. Story wise this game had one or two dull moments but the action is what you play gears for and it had plenty. I respect Epic for just closing this trilogy with Gears 3 and not leaving an open ending like most would. This game and this trilogy can be looked back on as a game that kept up a high standard all round.

  • Dead Space is quickly becoming not only one of the best franchises of the generation but also one of the best horror franchises in history. I feel like this game had the perfect blend of action, atmosphere and jump scares to make a great horror title. Visually it was great to luck at, and the weapons had a really nice feel to them. I look forward to the next title in this franchise very much.

  • Similar to LA Noire, Deus Ex is another well put together package. I had never played a Deus Ex game before so going into this I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I ended up having a tremendous amount of fun building my character in the stealthiest way possible and working my way through the missions. I can say that I made my way through the game with a single kill. This game would've been higher on my list if it wasn't for the ending that lacked any importance or impact.

  • I could be put this game on my list simply for the facial animation alone but this was a very well put together package. Although the open world aspect of the game was pointless and non existent, approach this game had to action and storytelling was something I feel deserves attention from a lot of people.

  • Saints Row: The Third is quite possibly the craziest games ever, and years from now we will look back on it as one of the highlights of the generation. There was no way that this game wasn't going to be on my list, but it would be higher if the missions had activities in the world had that something extra. As crazy and fun as it was, if you remove the stupidity of the story then you're left with an average action game.

  • Skyrim isn't really on my list for its gameplay or story. This game is on my list more for its technical achievements. The massive world that Skyrim has to offer and the amount of stuff to do or discover it very impressive. The reason why this isn't higher is simply because I did not enjoy the combat or the general feel of the game, and I would of preferred a smaller but more polished experience.

  • MW3 barely makes my list as it was a bit of disappointment for me. I still found it enjoyable working my way through the campaign and the multiplayer was fun enough, however it lacked in a lot of areas. I feel like all of the drama with the developers for this franchise really harmed the development of this title, and because of it this game just snatches the number 10 spot.
