We have tried adding secrets and techniques to the sport before. Small issues, like obscure crafting recipes or bizarre habits, and all the things at all times gets found out instantly. No matter how obscure we make a brand new function, it's absolutely documented inside hours of a brand new release. This is awesome, and an ideal example of how dedicated some Minecraft gamers are, but it also means we won't actually conceal something good in the game even if we tried.
So a while in the past, I did some intentionally obscure code in the title display to modify two letters round, making it say "Minceraft" (old working gag, there's even a "minceraft" mockup t shirt design we did) instead of "Minecraft" on every 10000th game launch or so, and nobody found it! I was so completely happy about that, I lastly knew something about the game the gamers didn't know.
Flash ahead to this GDC a number of days in the past, I am doing an interview with Chris Hecker, and he asks me if there's something no one has present in the sport, and i say yes. I should've said no, however I said yes. Then I start getting emails and tweets about it, individuals start getting excited, and figuring out how minor the key is, I try to tell folks it is a really minor secret. MINECRAFT SERVERS That appears to fuel the flames. A reporter from a well known gaming site needs to run an article on it, and i inform him not to. Getting individuals hyped up about an intentional typo isn't really a great technique to spend everybody's time.
There's a whole lot of cool stuff to be taught from this, although. One is that it Is possible to cover stuff in plain sight, but once folks go on the lookout for it, they are going to discover it. Another thing is that folks appear to wish to get excited over issues, even should you inform them it's nothing major.
I am impressed and relieved you discovered it. I will not touch upon it exterior of this subreddit.
