I'm actually pretty disappointed in the BG&E2 reveal

The original game was designed for ages 7+ and had a lot of innocent charm to it. I never concerned myself with why there were humanoid animals who talked, I just rolled with it, but this edgy sweary Urban Gorillaz rejects NoMansjade prequel is about as far removed from what I was hoping for as you can get. Honestly, the proof of concept trailer that leaked back in 2009 was what I was hoping for: -

Which was effectively BG&E with a bit more Tomb Raider and Mirrors Edge to the traversal in a richer urban landscape.

This may well turn out to be a great game in itself, but I don't think it should wear the sequel moniker to BG&E. Feels like it's more Fifth Element meets Tank Girl/Gorillaz, which beyond the animal actors seems to share nothing in common with the original.

Good stuff, glad they continued. Can't wait until they do the finale.

I see a lot of people commenting about how Fallout 4 saying it's just more of 3. This really confuses me, because this is all Fallout will ever be, and arguably all it's ever been. I feel like it's a niche segment of consumers that have these really strange expectations of how and what a game franchise should evolve toward. To me this was Fallout with bump in graphics and fantastically overhauled gun handling, with some inventory & UI improvements thrown in. I thought the main story took a dive in this one, which may have been due in part to having a voiced player character, although that addition seemed fine to me on its own.

Firstly I think it's a bit presumptuous to guess the future, secondly the disappointment is about the fact that the step up in overall quality is just not that significant given the time between iterations. Bethesda bought ID software. People who know a thing or two about game engines. Yet it does seem like they've bothered to leverage any of that knowledge (ID made RAGE after all) versus make yet another gamebyro game.

Arguing to give FO4 a pass for being janky as hell 'because Bethesda' is a seriously weak sauce position. That kind of handwaving away of actual technical issues on the basis of 'give the poor devs a break' is a terrible argument that does not seem to appreciate that a fluid game play experience is not a bridge too far when it comes to player expectation. Most other AAA developers manage this fairly consistently and many produce open world games.
