I prefer the Genesis sound chip to the SNES sound chip. Genesis music just aged better, in my opinion. Sure, if you listen to both systems on a shitty set of speakers, then SNES will sound "better" in terms of composition, but SNES games mostly sound terrible on even mid-range speakers because of the compression on most of the samples.
Also, I prefer the music in the Genesis versions of MK1 and MK2 to the music in the SNES versions. I don't care if the SNES versions have more arcade-faithful music; it's compressed as hell and sounds like garbage. Some of the music tracks done for the Genesis versions are just incredible, though. The intro music from MK1 in particular was pretty awesome. What I like about some of the Genesis compositions is that they didn't necessary *try* to sound like the arcade compositions; they were more so inspired by the arcade compositions while taking proper advantage of the Genesis sound chip.
@matoyak: I agree. Easily one of the uglier games in the series. Considering how much people tend to bitch about the graphics in games being too brown these days, I'm surprised that this game doesn't get more flak.
Also, it's interesting to me that Vinny's already addressed most of my issues with this game within an hour and a half of beginning to play it. Frankly, I don't really feel that this is a very strong entry in the series. Also, the music, while okay, just isn't Castlevania music.
The most frustrating part of this feature was Vinny occasionally opting to use Trevor instead of Sypha (despite her clearly being superior for certain segments) on the basis that Trevor takes less damage per hit. Late in the game, that doesn't matter, because both characters can still take four hits before dying.

In either case, though, well-done on finishing the game, Vinny. I'm glad you stuck with it.
@kevinski: Well if they're going to play that, they should play the real deal version "Rondo of Blood" on the PC Engine CD, which happens to be available on the Wii virtual console. The SNES port was basically a watered-down version of that.
I'd be really surprised if Vinny skips Rondo. The reason that I mentioned Dracula X is because I more or less expect Vinny to pass on it as a result of someone being under the impression that it's little more than a bad version of Rondo (which isn't the case). I actually prefer Dracula X to Rondo for various reason, and I think it'd be really entertaining watching Vinny fight Dracula in Dracula X. If you don't know what you're doing, then the Dracula fight in Dracula X is arguably one of the most challenging segments in the entire series.
That said, I'm actually more so looking forward to Vinny playing Bloodlines. That's my favorite of the Castlevania games that aren't in the style of SotN.
