GOTY 2013

List items

  • The Last of Us amazing stealth gameplay, beautiful graphics, wonderful characters, and is a game that starts great and keep getting better right up to the perfect ending. This game is not only better than any of the Uncharted games, it's one of the best game of the generation and definitely the best game of 2013.

  • Sneaking around and exploring the island in Tomb Raider was one of the most enjoyable experiences I've had in games this year.

  • I actually really enjoy the combat in the BioShock games, and the story may not make much sense if you think to hard, but it's still super fun to experience.

  • As a Dead Space game, you could consider DS3 an insult to the earlier games in the franchise. But as it stands on it's own, this is a fun game with a really awesome gun crafting system and a story that is super dumb in the best possible way.

  • My favorite indie game of the year. Hacking light switches and leaping through buildings always felt good, and the story was intriguing enough to keep pushing me forward.

  • FFXIV took advantage of my nostalgia for FFXI as well as more modern MMO design to make a game I want to keep going back to and level up more classes to improve my character.

  • Dead Rising 3 has done a good job of justifying my Xbox One. Driving around in the combo vehicles was great, but nothing beats going to my locker, selecting a variety of the funnest weapons I had on hand, and then slaughtering the thousands of zombies that ravage the city.

  • I don't normally like playing games more than once. But when the game is comedy-based, really short, and has so many wild variations on where the story could do, I had to keep going back again and again to try different choices.

  • It hurts not to put Metal Gear Rising on my list, but DMC is the best character again game of 2013. Everything about the combat feels really good, and makes you feel like a badass while still offering a challenge.

  • The world in Don't Starve is so weird and wonderful and intriguing that I want to uncover all of it's mysteries, so matter how many times I die and lose all my progress.
