@hunkulese: That's somewhat less true than what it used to be as the current crop of machines share an near identical hardware base to current PC's. There are still obviously advantages from the closed nature of the platform such as the lack of a driver layer between API and GPU but Vulkan and DX12 do knock down that advantage somewhat when properly exploited. Ultimately rendering at 4K isn't too hard for a 1060/RX580/480 once you bump down the detail settings to the same sort of level you get from the console versions of games.

The 1070 is a good deal more beefy than the RX480 derived hardware in the One X. You need to remember that most modern GPU's from the 480/1060 level up are perfectly capable of running 4K (30 or 60) once you knock down the settings a chunk and that's effective what the console versions do effectively.

The CPU is fine, Intel's performance hasn't really increased meaningfully in 6 years.

@dokaka: The technology baseline on the CPU front was targeted at the original PS4/XBO spec. If they maximized what their engine did with that baseline with a target of 30fps then it's sound reasoning that 33% increase in CPU power probably isn't enough to support double the framerate on the newer specification.

Battlefield isn't an apt comparison as there is next to no AI in that game, additionally things like static character models as opposed to a full armor/loot system which increase things like draw calls in the engine (remember when Bethesda had to bump down the number of item slots between Morrowind and Oblivion for a similar reason?).

The Pro presumably just doesn't have the horse power for the style of game they've built. We're all aware that the engine they've built is incredibly cumbersome so that probably factors into it somewhat.

It's a CPU limitation, not a GPU limitation. Graphical fidelity isn't the problem it's the complexity of the AI and physics. When it comes to CPU power the PS4 pro isn't really isn't a huge step above the standard PS4, it's the same CPU with few hundred mhz clocked on it.

The Jaguar CPU used in both of the current machines was originally designed for use in X86 based tablets and ULP PC's back in 2013, it's by no means a work horse.

There is too much Abrahms going on in that trailer to make me feel in any way optimistic as to how this show will turn out.
