Not sure if I want to put my hand up for consideration as a guest expert atomic physics (almost) PhD, or if it would make me pull my hair out in real-time not being able to hit pause on Dan after he asks an incredible question
Alex accidentally wandering into the Synthesis ending is peak mass Alex. Truly, the only way it could've ended. Really enjoyed going on this journey with Alex and Vinny.
It really is, holy shit. Alex stumbling into things while Vinny can remember barely anything (warp was the power to damage armor, which Alex had the entire time) was probably why I enjoyed Metal Gear Scanlon more, but as I got used to it, it had a certain charm towards the end.
Nothing in Mass Alex (frustrating as it can be to watch sometimes) compares to Dan pushing Drew to play MGS5 in the worst way possible. Nothing.
The one thing that will never baffle me more is the idea that people somehow crunched imaginary numbers and ran with the assumption that the destruction of the mass relays would lead to everyone dying out or something.
Mass Effect as a series has never bothered with such granularity in its soft science and to suddenly do so for the ending in particular I think is just absurd
There are numerous references in the games to characters needing chiral food/drink (Tali gets sick from eating the wrong cheese at the party!), and it doesn't take a leap of logic to figure out that would be unavailable without the mass relays (which iirc originally got destroyed in every ending). It would be like if you couldn't ship things internationally on earth any more, countries which are net importers of food would have famines. It's extremely obvious
I think the first time I played 3, I made the same choices as Alex here but I didn't have enough rep for The Blue Option so Tali did what she does and I immediately deleted the save and started all over again, because fuck that.
I dislike the idea that singular personalities are "more alive" than a networked intelligences.
Fair, but I think the point is that the reaper upgrades are sufficient to give each Geth unit a similar level intelligence to what they had as a collective before (though I don't think that's explicitly stated, so I might be making it up a bit). Each unit also still contains many "programs", so they aren't just a single consciousness/personality.
You get a big bonus to hit anyone who gets knocked down, you should generally take advantage of that instead of going after anyone else. Also energy weapons mostly suck compared to small guns unless you can find a turbo plasma rifle, but at least they're better than big guns
@benpack I'm loving the series, but I wish you wouldn't entertain selling your companions into slavery. That's pretty rough, even for Fallout.
Also, keep in mind that any unused Action Points at the end of a round go into your Armor Class, giving you extra defense, if you didn't know that already.
but also, especially with melee enemies, it can be a much better use of the spare AP to move away so they get fewer attacks rather than get a slight increase in AC
