So I broke down, and bought Nasus instead of saving for Riven. He is awesome and now my favorite hero so far. I have played 3 pvp with him and won them all, 2 times with no deaths and a high amount of kills and assists. I really like the way he plays. Is he used in ranked pvp?

Nasus should be easier though, if you are good with lasthitting minions you should do well as him, every minionkill with his Q gives it more damage, potentially infinite damage. And he has a great slow+ultimate that makes you nigh invincible for a while. Riven is a bit more complex and combo/timing based, though if you are doing good with her she becomes a beast. TLDR, They are both great champs, and not especially similar. Pick your style.

Thanks for the tips! I haven't purchased Nasus yet, still playing Riven since she's free. I love her playstyle.

Tried Garen for a couple games since he's one of the free heroes this week; and I have to say that I don't play very well with him. I have tried Riven and I love her! Too bad her price is fairly steep and I only have about 1400 ip. I'll have to save up. How do you think Nasus stacks up versus Riven? If I like her would I like Nasus?

Still haven't bought a hero yet, looking at Garen and some of the others you mentioned such as gangplank. I'm used to ranged right now, as I feel I do ok as Tristana and Ashe.

What about any of the tank characters? Any good for a newbie?

So I've got enough money to purchase my second hero now. My first was Ashe, been enjoying her a fair amount. I want to try a melee hero that an hold his own toe to toe against other melee. Ashe seems to get ganked pretty good if she gets caught alone. Any suggestions?
