GOTY 2015

Here is where I'd normally put my top 10 games of the year but I have a conundrum this time; I only played 12 'new' games this year so below is my top 6 as I think they are deserving of a spot on the most prestigious list in the galaxy. First a few omissions from the list I did play this year:

Halo 5: 90% of this game was instantly forgettable. I could barely tell you a thing that happened or any stand-out moments. I remember it looked good and played well but the whole Locke side of the story felt unnecessary.

Batman Arkham Kinght: Under the Hood is my favourite batman story which this game is loosely based on. I felt this was the worst entry in the series. The batmobile stuff grew on me but the tank combat sucked every time. It just left me feeling deflated, I'd rather play origins again than this.

The rest of the games I just didn't play enough of are: Guitar Hero Live, Lara Croft GO and Rare Replay.

I also played Pokemon Shuffle but after a week or so I've just burned out on it and I don't think it's very good.

For the record I've played so few games because I was playing Destiny daily for about 7 months of the year. That game got a lot better this year with the release of the Taken King but I've played a lot less since it was released. Guess I've just seen all there is to see for now.

Anyway, on to the list!

List items

  • You should all play Life is Strange. It's easily the best episodic game I've ever spent time with and you get to see the writing improve over the series. You can clearly see the feedback given by fans was taken into account and fed into the rest of the game. There are moments in this game that hit me like a ton of bricks and they stuck the landing. This is a game with consequence, a game that tells us even if we could change time we still can't fix everything. You should play this game.

  • I was up until 2am this morning playing gwent. I am doing every side mission in this world. I've lost count of the number of days I've spent 6+ hour sessions playing this. I get the argument between the sense of urgency from the main story and the plethora of side content given to you but that's not just a problem with this game. Anyway I just see it as value for money.

  • This is the cabin in the woods of video games. As a sucker for a good horror game or film this was made for me.I almost got a perfect playthrough first time as well but I just had to open that fucking trap door didn't I. YO LEVI, WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU THINK WAS DOWN THERE?

  • I dig this game and it's weird robot heads.

  • ROCKET LEAGUE! Hey who want to play some rocket league because I'm down whenever. I'm not much of a multiplayer guy there days but if you tell me you've made a football game with cars, I'm there.

  • If my Vita was good for one thing this year (that wasn't collecting dust) it's to be the perfect platform to play this. easy to jump in for quick sessions, tight controls and interesting mechanics kept me coming back in.
