Sorry, I forgot all about this after a few days. It's still happening for me now on version 57.0.2 (64-bit) - Windows 10. Disabling all extensions didn't fix it.
I've noticed that in Firefox (but not in Chrome) my theme preference isn't saved between page loads. I can choose the dark theme and it'll change on the spot, but refreshing or going to any other page on the site returns it to eye searing whiteness.
I created a GAF account only a month or two ago. I never really visited any forum except for 'Gaming Discussion' because that's what the site was known for. Hadn't really seen what was in Off-Topic, didn't know who Evilore was...
When this shit storm happened I realized that a lot of people really hated GAF and the people who went there. I didn't realize the place was so reviled. It was a bit shocking really. A lot of stuff on reddit was from 'KotakuInAction' -- hadn't heard of them before either, but they don't seem like very nice people.
GAF and the people who hate them -- both groups seem pretty messed up to me. It's really making me reconsider interacting with the gaming community online period. A real shame.
GAF was simply the most populous gaming message board that wasn't overrun by gamergaters, so it's despised by those types for that reason alone. Take care that you don't lend too much credence to the smear tactics used by the alt-right, who have been whipped up into a frenzy over this situation because they smell blood. Don't fall for this "both sides" crap; there isn't some hidden underbelly to their community that you somehow weren't privy to - the experience you had interacting with the forum is what you should use to make a judgment.
What's going on with the poll in this thread? It's saying I picked "I'm not able to vote in the US election, but I'd vote for Donald Trump", which I definitely didn't do. It's like the answers got shifted down by one or something.
One thing I've been wondering for a while now - Did I somehow manage to luck into being on at the exact right time to witness Girl's arrival at a planet the one time I randomly decided to check up on Noby Noby boy on a lark, or does it just automatically show you whatever progress has been made since you last logged on?
Micromanaging which apps are running in the background is generally not something you have to concern yourself with as a user unless a specific app is misbehaving.
It's a bug. The game is supposed to run down all currently active timers and then then stop, but on some devices the game will keep running in the background indefinitely unless you force close the app. It basically renders the game unplayable if you have the bug and don't know to shut it down manually every time.
