GOTY 2017

Nothing is set on stone, anything can change!

Top 10? maybe!

List items

  • While not having a bigger impact as NieR to me, this game still provides a fantastic story, soundtrack and thanks to Platinum Games, gameplay as well. Don't try to research this game and go in as blind as possible for the full Yoko Taro™ experience. The only problem with it was the outdated Platinum Engine and one part of the game drags on.

  • Fantastic FPS with a lot of Story focus , mixed with bombastic gameplay. The only problem with the game I have are missing Hit Confirm/directions and some enemy encounters (starting in a very open spot and then you need to fight 4-5 enemies at the same time).

  • After a very rough start and finally getting the hang of it, this is one of the most rewarding CRPGs I've ever played. The combat is bascially a Sandbox CRPG style, which allows you to do almost every combo possible. Enemies are bleeding and have no magic shield? Shock their blood pool below them! You have deathfog in the battlefield and you play as an undead? Teleport the enemy to you , to insta-kill them! You have no picklock and are a skeleton? No problem, use your finger!

The Sandbox aspect of this game and how open it is to use it makes it a great pleasure to play. Same with the Worldbuilding, Story and Character development.

  • Fantastic JRPG with a decent story, good soundtrack and great characters. With it's simple tweaks, it changes the typical Shin Megami Tensei's "Press Turn" System so much, that it feels fresh. Another fantastic aspect is the fact, that Shadows are finally rendered in high quality models. Now you can finally embrace Mara in full 1080p.

  • Biggest surprise in 2017 so far. Fantastic story and sound design mixed with fantastic voice acting and animations. If only the puzzles would have more variety, it would have been an even better experience.

  • Runnin' in the... millennium?. Fantastic remaster of the masterpiece released on PS2. With the fantastic gameplay/engine of Yakuza 0 and a very strong narrative story by itself, it placed itself in the higher ranks of my GOTY list.

  • Runnin' in the... 80's? Yakuza 0 is a fantasticly written yakuza-crime drama. But don't get fooled of the drama thing, it still has fantastic humor and a lot of action scenes. Even if running and fighting in Kamurocho is fun, the outdated Engine shows itself. It still didnt hinter me playing this game for over 100 hours tho.

  • Shootin. Lootin. Grindin. Shootin. Lootin. Grindin. Rinse and repeat with fantastic gunplay and interesting Raid ideas. Kinda lacks the End-game, but Bungie confirmed that they work on that problem.

  • Great Remaster, adding additional features , balances and gameplay optimizations.

  • It's Puyo. It's Tetris. Fantastic mix of both tile-matching puzzle games with fantastic AI. Netplay might not be as good tho, if you play with someone overseas.
