My Top Ten Games of 2015

2015 was a good year, not just in terms of video games, but also for me on a personal level. For both of these things, that's great to say. That said, there was almost too much quality gaming to be done this year. An overflow of sorts!

Can't complain, but there are games that I wish I would've spent more time with by the year's end. I still haven't touched games like Rise of the Tomb Raider, SOMA and Tales of the Borderlands, which for me, very well might have been contenders for this top ten list.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Metal Gear Solid V - MGSV strayed too far from what I know the series to be and it did not grab me like it did for most people, but I enjoyed my 20 hours with it. D-Dog is adorable.
  • Bloodbourne - I usually get really addicted to Souls games, but I fell off with this one for some reason... I still really enjoy both the game and the atmosphere it presents. Will have to get back to this one soon at some point.
  • Disney Infinity 3.0 - I unfortunately fell into this money trap with my fiance due to the Star Wars content this year. It's honestly a lot of fun! Lacks the depth and length of standard games, but it's a surprisingly fun package and worth a look if you have a love for Star Wars and toys.
  • Nathan Drake Collection - This collection was a great way for me to finally beat Uncharted I/II this year.
  • Star Wars Battlefront - Lack of main content and nasty season pass practices sink what is an otherwise great Star Wars multiplayer experience. That first time when you take down both AT-AT's as the Rebels is one of my favorite gaming moments from this year.
  • Warhammer: Vermintide - Fun L4D style fantasy game. I wish the loot system was better/more rewarding.
  • Helldivers - Fun, but intense top down COOP shooter. You can't turn Friendly Fire off!?
  • DUCK GAME - Quack quack. Definitely a game of pure joy. Lots of laughs.
  • Grow Home - A very unique game. LOVE YOU BUD!
  • Heroes of the Storm - Got me back into MOBAs for a couple months... Something I never thought would happen. Great fun with friends.

List items

  • If you want to talk about a incredible mix of quantity and quality, Witcher 3 has got your back. This game is insane when you really step back and consider how much there is to it. I'm about 80 hours in and I am still only 1/3rd of the way through the story. A terrific end to this franchise of games.

Easily the best game I played in 2015 and it comes highly recommended from me to you!

  • When I consider one of the best single video gaming experiences I had this year, it would have to be playing Batman on his final night on the town. I loved pretty much everything about this game (Yes! EVEN the Batmobile and the Arkham Knight twist!). Rocksteady pretty much invented this type of combat and it's tuned to almost perfection in this one. When I consider everything I got from this game as a longtime fan of THE BATMAN, it's easily one of my favorite gaming experiences of the year.

  • A compelling time travel story that is wrapped within an adventure game and filled with some serious tear jerking moments. I very seldom get moved to the point of tears in my eyes and this game managed to bring 'em out multiple times.

By the end of this game, I cared more about Max and Chloe than most video game characters in recent memory. They came across as real people with real feelings and emotions. The ending might have inspired mixed feelings from some people, but I thought the one I got was perfect.

  • THE most addicting game of the year. A rewarding mix of soccer and rocket cars. The one game that kept me coming back the most this year. WHAT A SAVE!

  • Wow. Until Dawn contains amazing graphics, memorable characters and a compelling story. Definitely didn't expect this game to be anywhere as great as it was. I just got MONKED!

  • Hand of Fate was easily one of the most addicting and under appreciated games that I played all year. It is punishing, but rewarding at the same time. A skillful mix of card game and RPG gameplay.

  • I was so stoked for Mad Max. It was my most anticipated game of the entire year. While I still ended up loving the game more than most, the lack of difficulty is my only negative with this game. This game got too easy too fast and the upgrade system seems like overkill. I still love this game though. Great story, crazy characters and TONS to do. Worth a look.

  • Admist the standard Bethesda list of bugs and technical shortcomings, Fallout 4 was still a megaton of fun. The main story quest is honestly the best and most interesting one that they've done so far. The twist had a real weight to it and the decisions that you make are not to be taken lightly. Awesome characters too - Nick Valentine, Piper and Deacon are some of my favorites from the whole year.

  • A nice "return to form" of sorts for this fatigued franchise. Jacob and Evie Frye are the best protagonists yet from this franchise and I was happy to see their London adventure through to the end. First AC game I've beaten since the FIRST ONE. So, there.

  • Most of the season came out this year, so back off man! There's one Telltale game that I get hooked on every year and this one was the one for me this year. I really enjoyed the always desperate story of House Forrester and how it weaved in and out of the main story line. I second guessed every decision in this game, because that's how invested I was in making sure these characters survive to the bitter end.
