You play the role as Commander Shepard and you will make decisions that will affect the universe throughout three games. There is a huge emphasis on character development and story. If it isn't an RPG, then the genre needs to be renamed; maybe to inventory, and stat management games (ISMG)?
 
It is more RPG than most JRPGs. JRPGs are linear, and you are playing the role of someone else, and you don't get to make many if any decisions. You are playing a role where you, the player, can make decisions and choose how you want to be remembered in the universe. It seems that the people who are saying Mass Effect isn't a shooter are those who are caught up in old gameplay conventions.
 
In short, you care about the characters and the decisions you make more than finding a weapon that does 1 more hit point of damage than the one you have.

Sleeper hit? Everyone is hyping this game up. Either as a COD alternative/replacement, or as a Battlefield game.
 
First persons shooters are never "sleeper hits."

You know the game is awesome when people are complaining about small nit-picks such as the elevator.

I threw up when I read the title of this thread.

The first thing that popped up when I started the game was "Redeem Cerberus code." I entered it, and downloaded the dlc and went on my way to playing the game.
 
It even shows you how to do so on the cerberus card. I don't get why so many people are having problems...

Difference is you get XBL services on it (like every game on the 360) and you get PSN services on the Playstation 3. There also seem to be less people with mics (which is a good or bad thing depending on your situation). Just go for the version that has more of your friends playing.
