It didn't really feel like all that small of a track to me. Seemed kinda long. Maybe that's just a perception thing though. I'd almost rather we used the Charlotte infield instead. Or maybe the Jefferson course at Summit Point.
I gotta ask... any special reason to race the Auto Club road course for the Jetta series? It doesn't seem like a great candidate to me. It might as well be a parking lot with orange cones marking the lanes. No elevation change, no real banking, not much in the way of brake markers. It's just... plain. I imagine most people who jump into these races are going to be road course racers for the most part. Not many people who identify themselves as such are likely to own Auto Club. I think it's a great oval, but not so much a great road course. I've never raced there so I could be wrong. I think Lime Rock or something would be better for this car.
I bought the Jetta a week ago and then did several laps around Donington and it was pretty fun. Fast? No, not in the slightest. But fun? Surprisingly it was. They really should have made that one of the free cars. It's much easier to handle than the Miata. It'd be much less scary for new subscribers to drive in their first road races compared to the other free cars.
It should be a ton of fun racing it in a large pack of other Jettas later this month, so everyone join us! Given how basic the car is and how forgiving it is of mistakes, we should end up having some of the most competitive races this league has ever seen.
I don't think they ever said the name of the race track once during that whole tune. Doesn't count! Could have been a song played over anything really.
@neemer: Fair enough. :) I would give it another try though, especially with us. BOMBCAR has the 2 instant-repairs to use along with lucky-dog rules, so if you wreck (and take someone else out) you're not out of the running. In the fun races (like this past weekend) we have unlimited instant-repairs, wave everyone around to the lead lap and throw competition cautions; It's just dumb fun.
I can see how someone wouldn't want to spend money on tracks they'd rarely use. In BOMBCAR we are going to try and use the same tracks every season (swapping 1 or 2 each time), so it's worth it I think. Daytona is a good purchase.
Yep, Daytona is a safe purchase. Pretty reasonable to assume it will be on every schedule in some fashion. It's a great track for a number of reasons, and is generally well liked by most people in the league.
Besides, how many race tracks have their own song!?
I'm sure you guys know, I love oval racing but I'm rarely home on Sundays, so I had to miss the Gen-6 at Daytona. To back what IroN1c just said, the Nationwide is a great purchase. Just don't buy the Impala since it's been retired from official races. It's fast but not too fast. I find the Gen-6 to be a handful on certain tracks, but the Nationwide is much easier to handle. I would also highly recommend purchasing Daytona. That one should just be a mandatory purchase when you sign up for iRacing. Talladega is also great.
I just use my mouse/keyboard. Unorthodox and perhaps dangerous but unless I have an early pit stall, I can usually figure things out on a straightaway and confirm things in pit lane while riding the limiter
