Why don't some hackers use their powers for good, and find out who these people that are making death threats are, publish their names, addresses, where their children go to school, etc. Let's see how they like it. Turnabout is fair play.

Sounds like a great idea until some hacker with a personal vendetta against somebody makes fake evidence and posts it as fact and somebody gets destroyed.

I think if anything, this whole nonsense is giving us a good glimpse of why mob amateur investigative journalism is bad news. You can't trust every person that sees sensitive information to treat it responsibly and to withhold it until it's properly verified. In the case of "doxxing" and harassment you can't trust internet mobs to show restraint in who they choose to target and how they go about it.

This idea that "the journalists aren't looking into it so we have to" is such self righteous nonsense. Has it occurred to these folks that actual reporters have looked into many of the issues they raise and deemed them non-issues?

I've been playing on a regular 3ds. It's not great, but I'm also not great at it. When it zooms out, I have a real hard time telling what any character's doing: like if they're readying an attack in a certain direction, picking up an item, etc. That also makes it hard for telling when my character has finished an animation or completely landed to time my next action. But again, I'm not great at it right now, and these are things that I expect won't be as much of an issue as I play it more. You ought to be able to download the demo on your system to try it out first.

The Christian Bale Batman movies are ok movies, but they waste so much Batman potential. The Dark Knight gets too off the rails at the end.

if it is not free it will be a failure, also i imagine all heroes will be just passives like in borderlands with 1 active ability that will be dumb down

Huh, I thought I had read that the game would be free to play somewhere, but I can't find that to verify now.

I don't think the two are related at all. Furious Four just looked like it was going to be 4 player co-op like Borderlands but in a WW2 setting. This looks like it's going to be a PVP only game just like every other MOBA but with FPS instead of a third person view. Even all the different characters just look like such MOBA characters.

I'm not saying this "looks" at all like Furious Four. I'm just thinking that somewhere along the way that project transitioned into this. It's not cited, but the Wikipedia page for Furious Four has a quote from Randy Pitchford saying that it was undergoing some drastic changes to be a new IP game.

Game Informer just revealed Battleborn to be its next cover story. It's being developed by Gearbox, published by 2K, and written by former Destructoid writer Aaron Linde. It's looking like a Free to Play FPS battle arena game (MOBA) which would be a hard swing from what Furious Four seemed to be going for (did we ever really know), but being that they are both squad-based coop first person shooters, I bet this is where they went with that.

GI Cover Reveal

Thoughts?

I understand what you're saying. Even agree with you on some points. Patrick can be a little tiresome. Jeff does seem to get disinterested for stretches of time. The SF crew does not seem to put out as much content as they once did (at least not quick looks and reviews). While I won't fault you for where your interests take you, I think the changes you've noted have more to do with the present state of the games industry than you might think. For one, the coverage of indie games has increased significantly, not merely because of Patrick's presence, but because there are really not that many big commercial games coming out anymore, not like there were 4 years ago. And the ones that still are being made tend to be less interesting sequels or rehashes of things we've seen before several times. The indie game scene, however, is seriously cooking these days. That's where new ideas are coming from, hence that's where the guys' interests are going. Look around other game sites. Everybody is covering indies more these days.

As for the "paywall" argument, other people have pointed out, that's what has kept the site afloat. For years GB offered all of it's content for free and built a lot of good will with their fans. A fairly generous subscription model allows those of us with an income to give back, while not taking away the type of content they were already producing. If you have little to no income and 50-60(?) bucks a year is too much (less if you take advantage around thanksgiving), then I can see how you're missing out on a lot of good stuff these days. I too was a dirt poor college student until fairly recently (though I subscribed, as much to support them as for any of the additional content I usually didn't have time to watch anyway). If you disagree with me calling the subscription model "generous", try paying for cable sometime or going to the movies regularly. Sixty bucks is what, like 4 or 5 movies? About one month of cable? If you like what these guys do, it's worth it. Just because much of the site is free doesn't mean you shouldn't support the people that do good things.

This is exciting news! As silly a thought it is to drop everything here and apply for a job across the country, it's still tempting. Let me know when you're ready to start up Giant Bomb Detroit.
