Menchi25: Best of 2009

  • Hell froze over. No, I'm NOT mocking the ice for once. That's my only possible explanation for how this game turned out good. I mean... it's not Team Silent, it's bastardizing a classic, and it's on the Wii and uses some of its gimmicky controls... but I'll be damned if it isn't extremely compelling to play.

  • I tend to be long-winded, so I'm going to simplify this one. This is the most fun I've had playing a rhythm game, or really any game, in years. In two words: It's fun!

  • It's rare to see a 2-D platformer nowadays, and it's even rarer to see one that isn't a remake of some sort. Well, here's one, and a damned good one at that. It's beautiful, it's fun, it's challenging... it's a damned shame we don't get to play many games like this anymore.

  • As you should be able to tell from my comments on Prinny, I love old games. So, how do you think I feel about a game, that makes you go back and play old-style games, and makes you look up hints and secrets in the old fashions through magazines and instruction booklets? What's that? "GaymFacks?" What the hell is that? Get outta here, you damned kids.

  • Like Mario? Yes. Like playing games with friends? Yes. Like total chaos of 4 people trying to go the same way running into each other, throwing each other and bouncing off of each other? .... Consult your party before playing, but with the right group, this game is a lot of fun. (Not to mention, if you're a loner like me, it's more of that sweet, sweet 2-D platforming.)

  • 007 373 5963. Do I make myself clear? In all seriousness, I was very happy to see they didn't dumb down the difficulty at all. I beat all the contenders, and thought, "That was a little too easy." Then Title Defense started and I had some sense knocked into me... by Glass Joe. Yep, Punch-out was done screwing around, it was time to get serious.

  • I loved Frequency, and I loved Amplitude. Is there any reason I shouldn't love the same gameplay in the palm of my hands? That wasn't a rhetorical question, the answer is, "No." Unfortunately, the songlist has some real stinkers, but there's still a lot of fun to be had here if you're a rhythm game fanatic like myself.

  • Uh-oh, can I do this in 30 seconds? It's fun, it's like playing an RPG in 30-seconds. Like Dragon Quest, but sick of level-grinding? Here's your man. ....

Aww man... I'll try and comment on it again later so I can get a better rank than, "competent video game player."

  • Okay, it's not just the first chapter, but that's the only way this site would let me add it to the list. It's pretty exciting to see Guybrush Threepwood again after all these years. Sure, the Tales games aren't going to live up to some of the older titles, but it's great to see the franchise essentially rise from the dead. Adventure games can still be a lot of fun. Oh, and uh... you fight like a cow.
