There are a few people that are taking a bit of a leap of faith with what this is going to look like moving forward, which I find a little bit weird.

Maybe stop prophecising, keep an open mind and see where it goes?

If it doesn't get in the way of the game, then I really don't care as I'll never spend a penny on any of that stuff.

Ubisoft are a business and want to make money and people must be buying shitty shortcuts in games otherwise they wouldn't do it. Performance issues sound like more of a reason to not pick up Unity.

Far Cry 2 :(

That's a really good shout. I love Far Cry 2, despite it's flaws, and in some ways prefer the more disparate approach to Far Cry 3. But there are days where that viewpoint feels like a very lonely place to be...

Made the same leap in Summer '13 by replacing the consoles in my front room with a PC hooked up to my TV and haven't regretted it.

Started with games that I was familiar with that I knew would look better, or run at a higher frame rate, just to give me that initial vindication of the outlay needed for a nice PC! Then it was games I couldn't play elsewhere, Gunpoint, Papers Please, Hotline Miami (which at the time might have been PC only? I forget), Civilization, world-building games, Wasteland 2 is another one I've started playing recently.

I barely buy any games directly on Steam now either because I can find deals on other websites where they're often much cheaper and I get the keys instantly.

The only thing that bums me out is the odd exclusive, Sunset Overdrive, Forza Horizon 2, The Last of Us and so on - all games that I'd really like to play. Oh, and multiplayer shooters - whereas I was good at these on consoles, that has been degraded to just holding my own on PC with a keyboard and mouse on the couch!

Being from the UK I read Eurogamer a lot and a question was posed about what other sites people liked - someone mentioned Giant Bomb. It was just before Ryan passed.

Ever since then I've had an attachment to the site and the people that run it, and strangely, barely read Eurogamer these days.

I feel quite embarrassed now.

I chose three of my team off the peg and created one all-rounder as "my" character, who I named after my cat, Jackson. I'm new to this RPG lark, what can I say...

I do enjoy Jason's quips from the Control room. Seems like a proper cool dude.

I think it's about more than just content, or at least it is to me. I've loved playing games for around 30 years now and I stumbled upon GB last year - the way they went about their business was just something I wanted to support, so I decided to become a premium member then.

Never regretted it.

What @splodge said - it just seemed to be there as a placeholder whilst they sort out post-PAX. We shall see, I guess.

Honestly. I can't see anything to get worked up about with this. If people want to donate then what a terrific gesture, irrespective of the consequences.

As for people being more deserving, leave it up to those people to determine that.
