As you might know, there's a scene in MW2 where you play an American soldier infiltrating a Russian terrorist group. As that guy, you are supposed to play along with some fellow
terroristes who plan to shoot a thousand innocents in an airport. So there you are, packed with a huge machine gun, next to three other bad guys, in front of a huge crowd of civilians waiting for their flights. The others start to mow down the people in front of them without remorse. And you?
You stand there, hands in pocket, waiting for your cue. Doing what you are supposed to do results in a "You can't shoot civilians" screen and a checkpoint restart. People scream, lay in puddles of blood, hold their chest ... but as long as it wasn't you, it's all good.
Now what really offends me is not the scene itself, but how ridiculous they censored it. Think about it: the three other terrorists don't even mind you not shooting with them. You just look like an idiot while the mission just plays out until you come across policemen, at which point you can finally do something more exciting than carrying a heavy machine gun through an airport. Even
Jerry Bruckheimer movies have a more plausible plot than this, and that's saying something.
Now I understand that shooting civilians is
bad, and I don't want to play a bad guy either, but why can't they disguise that problem a bit better? Lets say, your weapon jams right at the start, it just doesn't work, and the only thing you can do is to follow your companions, till at one point - a perfect opportunity would be when the police arrives - one of the three gets killed. You pick up his weapon and blaze away. There, you didn't harm any civilians
and the story's even more exciting that way.
