Basically, this is just a list of games I have found awesome and most likely played more than is strictly healthy. Since I can't really fix on a set of favorite games, I'm just listing things I've enjoyed, and reflect my [perhaps questionable?] taste in games.
A fabulously addictive and fun tycoon/sim game that spawned a thousand awful 'Tycoon' knockoffs.

I thought I had burned out on the series, and was a bit wary of BLOPS, as it is a [eeehhhh] Treyarch CoD, but I honestly think it has the best multiplayer of the entire series. Yeah. I don't know why.
An internet cafe in my hometown had weekly 'gaming nights' where you could pay $10 and get four hours of LAN gaming, and this was the main game offered there. I have really fond high-school memories of trashtalking and slaughtering friends with an unscoped Kar98 on the Carentan map while guzzling unholy amounts of coffee.
This should be self-explanatory.
A fantastic space-based 4x game from a small developer. If you like large-scale turn-based strategy at all, you owe it to yourself to check this series out.
I'm not a huge JRPG fan [The Final Fantasy series doesn't hold any special place in my gaming memories, for example], but I absolutely adore this game. A fantastic soundtrack, delightfully whimsical and colorful visuals, and a joyful sense of freewheeling adventure make this game an absolute pleasure to play.
This game's squad and commander systems added a level of tactical depth and cohesion which made this game astonishingly intense and unique when played with the right group of people. I have vivid memories of scrambling to cover and laying down supporting fire while our squad leader tried to devise a plan to deal with an incoming Abrams tank. This game is [in my opinion] still the unsurpassed champion of the military themed shooter genre.
