@RedCream: Oh man, I've completely forgotten about SR-71! Thanks for bringing them back to my attention; gotta boot up my old desktop and get the songs out of it.
It looks like a mess. There's too much going on, with no clear aesthetic.
The verge.com is the same way, and when it launched back in November, I would absolutely agree with you. After going to the site for months now, I'd have to say I realize what the design says about itself, its a very info heavy and not video heavy. It rivals giantbomb in overall clear aesthetic, but they go for different approaches. Giantbomb is a very personality driven site, and I like that about it, but the verge and vox media is very much a no frills, strict news headlines site, and stark boxes and grids are perfect for that. For people that want to know whats going on, and can easily see a bunch of news in one screen, its perfect.
I suppose once you get used to the layout it's nice to to be able to view all the headlines on one page, but it's too chaotic for me. I'll give the site a shot and see how the grids work out for me.
That video was fantastic. Entertaining as hell, and educational to boot. Never would have thought that Egoraptor had such relevant insights into game design.
I was highly skeptical as to whether it would have any effect, but colour me mistaken. Glad that people will have more worthwhile games to play on the Wii.
I never look up how to solve puzzles online, which has lead to many instances of me dropping the game and picking it up months later. For other games where I'm stuck in a repetitive combat challenge, I look up the best way to wreck those dudes.
