@edgaras1103: For the subs vs dubs debate (which will never end), I normally put it down to a case by case basis. Or if I happened to catch it dubbed/subbed the first time, I find it difficult to watch the other.
As for Black Lagoon, English Revy drops way more fucks, which I find hilarious. Also this (spoiler free) scene;
To expound on the dubs vs. subs thing, I feel like I lose a degree of immersion when I'm constantly diverting some amount of attention toward the lower half of the screen to read dialogue while things are happening. I've been watching anime and other subtitled media for so long that it doesn't particularly bother me, but if I can get a solid dub, it just feels better. Obviously if the dub is sub-par, then that's certainly going to prevent immersion, so subs become the more tolerable solution. I enjoy Japanese VA and can distinctly recognize different actors; it's just unfortunate that I can't understand them. I say all of that as someone who's native language is English, which is an important point. At the end of the day, I've seen far more subbed anime for the simple facts that quality dubs aren't especially common and they generally arrive far after I've already become aware of a show.
You were probably already going to, but watch Black Lagoon with the English dub, English Revy is best Revy.
Really looking forward to the Odin Sphere remake next year as well.
I also just bought a Vita, so I appreciate the tips. I'm curious about Valkyria Chronicles 2, can you play that without having played the first one? I mean, will the story make sense? Same question for VLR, by the way, will you miss much without having played 999?
So far my free PSN games have been paying off big time, if all I ever use my Vita for is Spelunky, Luftrausers, OlliOlli 2, Pix the Cat, Velocity 2X and Geometry Wars 3, it'll have been well worth the money.
For VC 2: Playing VC 1 isn't required, the story is set a few years afterwards with different characters, and they recap the first game at the beginning if I remember rightly. But you'd be doing yourself a disservice not playing VC 1 first, as it's easily one of the best games of last gen (plus VC 2 spoils a couple of plot points). In comparison VC 2's story is weaker, it's characters are awful, but the gameplay (while the maps are smaller) is still very fun. You get a bit more customization for your squad in comparison to the first game, upgrades are handled pretty poorly though (stupid random rewards...). Think you might need a PS3 to transfer it to the Vita though? Unless they changed that since I bought mine.
For VLR: I played it before 999, and I think it's perfectly enjoyable if you're planning on doing so. Be warned however, it does spoil 999 (since they explain a lot of the events during VLR, so you're not left out in the cold if you've not played it) and a couple of moments in VLR would likely have more impact if you'd played 999 first. But if you've not got the option of playing 999, then I'd say just play VLR.
Edit: If you're from the EU, the EU version of VLR doesn't have the English dub (which I quite liked). Since the US version is region free, just pick that one up if you want the English dub.
Gatchaman Crowds looks interesting. The opening is really likable as is the female character.
If you like Hajime, you stand a good chance of liking the series. Though it does seem a little rushed, as a number of things are left totally unresolved...
Just finished watching Bubblegum Crisis (late to the party I know). I was 200% on board minutes into the first episode, finished the series with a perm, acid wash jeans and a bomber jacket.
It's the most fun I've had with a series in a while.
I really enjoyed the first two games, but that was mainly due to the class trials. So I'm on the fence about this one, hence I've still not picked it up.
Looking for some positive reinforcement from this thread before I do...
