Seems like a pretty subpar quick look unfortunately. I don’t think I’ve learned much about the game and what differentiates it from Xcom, and the QL itself wasn’t particularly fun or entertaining.
Even in the big fight at the end where everything turned to shit, Rorie and Ben barely seemed to care, which robbed the moment of any excitement
@rpjeff: Waypoint is really good, especially when it’s Austin or Rob, as they can go into really deep dives into both a game’s mechanics and writing/themes. Like a really good recent point of comparison is their conversations on Fire Emblem Three Houses vs how GB talked about that game
Overall though, I’m probably not the best person to ask. Part of the reason I’m still a GB fan is that I prefer watching people joke and goof off and ultimately don’t care that much of a critic doesn’t really know what they’re talking about. If that bothered me, I would have stopped following GB ages ago
@royalghost: I’m not super hot on the game myself, but it sounded like Jason didn’t really engage much with the game beyond a surface level. Like he was talking about how he kept using the default fighter class and didn’t sound like he even really tried the others, and otherwise didn’t really talk in much depth about the games story or mechanics
I guess at this stage, it’s kinda to be expected of GB. I love the crew and they are really fun and funny when they’re in their element, but are also probably the most superficially informed games critics I follow (except of course for Jeff’s encyclopaedic knowledge of the history of the games industry)
If almost anyone else but Garrus and Tali died, I’d want Alex to continue with the save. But losing either of them really impacts ME3 in a negative way
I don’t hold GB to particularly high standards when it comes to being a source of information and reviews, but even by those low standards, this was an atrocious quick look.
With how fast Dan was rushing through everything, I feel like I barely know a thing about this game. Hell, I’m pretty sure he didn’t even mention the Skill menu or whatever was in it. If Dan was so disinterested in doing this, maybe he shouldn’t have done it at all.
Sure, the game could be as mediocre as they say it is, but this quick look sure as hell didn’t tell me one way or the other
