@frankiebeanz: It's why people love this game, and hate this game. I've been playing since beta and I love it for the very reason you describe. The game is a story generator and the way you win is to have a good story at the end. I'd say they won big time.
As someone who has been playing SoT almost exclusively since launch this was painful to watch and highlights how hard and obscure this game can be for new players. I think the crew did great figuring out the tale and working together.
Tale 2, The Cursed Rogue is much more difficult as you need to have some knowledge of the islands silhouettes in order to identify them in the book.
Here's some tips for your next voyage.
Cook meat and fish, they give you regen and you get 2 bites. The larger the meat the more regen you get. cook until golden brown. You can't cook fruit or bait, they will just burn. You can store cooked food in the food barrel. You will need it for the end of "The Cursed Rogue"
In the settings you can bind the FOOD button to the controller or keyboard. Pressing it repeatedly will cycle through your available foods/fish. Recommend assigning to R3 as Dpad L&R will conflict with turning the pages on the book due to a bug.
You can change weapons at the armory on the ship and outposts. You can reload at the ammo chest on the boat, armory and on islands, usually near barrels.
You can hook a rowboat to the back of any ship. This is handy if you sink because it will drop the rowboat so you can put your treasure/quest items in it while someone sails back the replacement ship.
Instead of dropping anchor, raise your sails when you see the island banner pop up on the screen.
With the anchor and sails up, you can rotate the ship and point in the direction you want to go before you drop the sails.
Forts are unoccupied unless there is a skull cloud above them. Some normal islands do have cannons that will shoot at you as you approach. Just fire someone out of the cannon to dispatch the skeleton manning the cannon.
Harpoons - Fire button attaches and releases, aim button reels the harpoon in.
Those empty chests you keep finding are supposed to contain gold but it was taken out before the update due to a bug, this should be fixed in the next update (this Wednesday, make sure to patch before the show!).
I love watching you guys fumble your way through the tall tales but the Arena mode or doing one of the active skull forts also might be fun for your viewers to watch. Thank you so much for playing this game on the show. I've been playing videogames since pong came out and Sea of Thieves is my favorite game ever.
I was excited for Crackdown 3 until I saw this. The superhero game has come a long way since Crackdown and it doesn't look like they have kept up. I hope I'm wrong.
