@simmant: White privilege? So me being white makes it ok? Is it ok to use other peoples race as justification for they way they are treated? You don't know me or the life I've led. So it's not OK for me to stand up and call out the same racial, sexual and gender discrimination that I also stand up for and defend for others?

Maybe it wasn't the best timing but I genuinely felt offended and I spoke out and was banned for it.

Look, I know it's a small thing in the grand scheme of things, especially now with the world the way it is, but it's still discrimination and that's usually how it starts.. small where nobody notices and nobody speaks up and when they do, they are dismissed, possibly with fart sounds.

The discussion was about all the abuse that has come up lately in the industry and Vinny said that the way it used to be was a bunch of straight white guys and I found it offensive as a straight white guy and I made the comment "Straight white guys are people too"

So is diversity all inclusive as long as you aren't a straight white guy? How is this acceptable? I've never abused anyone, I've never been racist yet I'm lumped into a group with a bunch of people and labeled because of my gender, race and sexual orientation and then have my voice on the chat taken from me because I speak out? I don't see how this is fair and inclusive.

Has anyone played this solo? I would have to play by myself if I bought it and I'm concerned it's only primarily fun in multiplayer.

I played most of the beta solo due to time constraints. It's totally doable with the smaller ship. You have to be aware of other players and keep an eye on the horizon. I was able to complete all the voyages by myself and maintain my ship. The smaller ship is designed to be operated by one person with all the controls located centrally near the wheel.

@mattchops: I tried to play it solo. Initially couldn’t figure out how to start a mission (called a “voyage” in game) after taking them from an NPC. Decided to just sail out, went to a small island, dropped anchor, killed a coupe skeletons. Some other ship came by and started shooting at me and my ship. Hauled ass back, raised anchor and took off. Ship sunk. I’m guessing I got shot but I don’t really know.

Respawned. Looked up how to start a voyage. Chose one with collecting chickens. Got a cage, had no idea how to use it. Abandoned that voyage, started a “go find the treasure one.” For to the island, dig up the chest carried it back to my ship. Stated sailing back to home base...ship sunk. No idea why. Tried to save chest and swim with it back to the home base. Got frustrated and lost. Respawned.

Quit.

The beta does lack any kind of tutorial, I don't know if one will be in the full game either. This game is brutally difficult for new players, best bet is to watch a lets play video and you will get it pretty quickly. I almost think it's designed this way. on the face it looks like a cartoony pirate game but it's more than that and it takes time in the game to see all that you can do, especially ship to ship combat which I think is the main focus of this game. I too think it may get boring after a while but I also think Rare knows what it's doing.
