My Top 5 anticipated games for Fall 2012

We are here at the start of the fall releases. Borderlands 2 just came out last week and many more games will be coming soon. Even though Halo 4 is probably the game I am most excited about, I will be writing about 5 other games that I can’t wait to play!

Dishonored

This is a first person game made by Arkane Studios. It seems like it will be a combination of several great games like Bioshock, Assassin’s Creed, and Deus Ex. It will be a very open game where you will make many choices on the different styles that you can play. You will have several different powers too, similar to Bioshock, as you go around each open-ended level trying to assassinate your targets.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is a turn-based strategy game. You play as a squad of humans from all across the Earth as you fight off an alien invasion. You will try to save the other countries as the aliens take over, but you will lose countries and your squad mates. Each campaign will last for many hours and will have many random elements that will add to the amount played and the fun.

Assassin’s Creed 3

Although Assasssin’s Creed Revelation was a disappointment in the Assassin’s Creed series, AC 3 seems like it will pick up the pace again. It will star the Native American, Connor, who will be fighting the Templars(some of them will be the British) in Colonial America. It will have historical ties like the previous games, this time taking place in the American Revolution. This would be a great place to start too for newcomers of the series!

Need for Speed: Most Wanted

I played my first Need for Speed this summer with Hot Pursuit. Made by Criterion, who made the Burnout games, it was an awesome experience of realistic driving and creative driving scenarios. Most Wanted will be an open city similar to Burnout Paradise. The autolog system will be back where you can try to outscore your friends in challenges and races. If you want to get into racing games, there is no better option than Need for Speed!

Hitman: Absolution

Hitman Absolution is a return from the Hitman series. Like Hitman:Blood Money, you will go around the environment as sneaky as you can trying to kill your target without being spotted. There are several different ways you can approach each encounter and most of the fun will be figuring out the best way to complete each mission almost making it seem like a puzzle as you use trial and error.

I'm feeling very jaded about this fall. I might check out NFS and AC3, other than that, meh.

Hitman and X-com made this list so I'm happy. I think those will be the games to make the fall for me. Absolution looks awesome, so far, and Firaxis+X-Com seems like a great combo.

Those are some clinical descriptions of personal choices. Personally, off the top of my head, Assassin's Creed III. I have yet to find that franchise losing steam.

  2. Dishonored
  3. Hitman: Absolution
  4. Need for Speed: Most Wanted
  5. Far Cry 3

Too bad I'm too poor and busy to buy any of them.

Yea it's kinda hard to write a little bit about games that I haven't played yet or know everything about yet. Tried to make it a little not clinical but oh well.

NFS is the only one I'd buy at or around launch as people will slowly stop playing it online and the log will become sort of obsolete. FC3 I need reviews and will probably wait for it to go on a steam sale. Hitman I don;t have any interest in as I tried the Hitman series in the past and didn't care for it. AC3 is going to be a bit as I need to play Brotherhood and Revelations still and Dishonored is not appealing to me at all, looks cool but not my game style.

@NoobSauceG7: I heard that the templars are not only British, so you might want to revise that part.

Played all those games yesterday. 1, 2 & 3 impressed me, the rest felt, same old same old.

Honestly, Far Cry 3 is the only game I'm really interested in. It's weird, it's open world, there's a map editor and there's some form of co-op, even if it's nothing special. Dishonored and XCOM look cool too, but honestly I don't have a lot of time for games these days so if I do play those it'll be sometime later next year at the earliest.

Also I should probably get around to playing Mass Effect 3 at some point.

I'm curious about AC3 but X COM is my top choice, If I had a list Farcry 3 would be there instead of NFS MW but it would look pretty much the same as yours.

I agree with most of what's in the OP. I think for me, the remaining games of 2012 that I'm hotly anticipating are:

  1. XCOM (Firaxis + Greatest TBS game of all time)
  2. NFS: Most Wanted (More Burnout Paradise)
  3. AC3 (Finally a proper sequel in this franchise after Ezio overstayed his welcome).
  4. Halo 4 (I haven't cared much about a game in this franchise since Halo 2, but the recent media blitz has gotten me excited)
  5. The remaining episodes of The Walking Dead (TellTale's best work in a long time, doing zombie apocalypse fiction at its best).

Dishonored, Far Cry 3, Hitman, and Forza: Horizon are wait and see games for me.

@Chaser324: Totally forgot about the rest of the Walking Dead. I am probably anticipating those last 2 episodes more than anything else, probably because of those cliffhangers at the end of each episode!

Dishonored is the only game I know for certain I'll get this holiday. I might get swept up in the Halo 4 hype since I really enjoyed Reach and it's been a good long time since that. The XCom game is a possibility, too. And, of course, we'll have to see what Steam tosses up for their annual Christmas sale. I hope I have a new PC by then. We'll have to wait and see.

Dishonored does look pretty awesome. I think that's the only game I'm excited for currently. Last year at this time I had a list of at least twenty titles I was dying to get upon release. I guess that's a good thing for my wallet though. Between Borderlands 2 and Guild Wars 2 I'm pretty content for games.

I really don't think Assassin's Creed 3 is a good place to start for newcomers. Well, maybe when it comes to gameplay, but story? Not so much. Also, I haven't been following Dishonored one bit.
