@ravelle: it's called bad retconning. I have no idea why they decided to do this 180 on his persona only to not really justify it. Yakuza 0 Majima and the Majima from the rest of the series are for all intents and purposes two completely different characters.

Not really though. They had already built toward it in both 4 and 5 where they showed Majima being more serious not keeping up the act all the time. His personality on both of those games is not that far of Majima in this game.

I would disagree. Throughout Yakuza 0, up to the very end Majima is this levelheaded guy with a heart of gold - he's basically Kiryu from the later games while they made Kiryu in this one more of a square dope. Then at the very last moment he has a very rational revelation and says "hey I'm gonna be crazy now" and thats his origin story. It literally is Majima just deciding suddenly to be the crazy guy at the very end of the game.

I'm a fan of the games, although I never got around to playing Yakuza 5, but this wasn't earned, not by a long shot.

Don`t get me wrong. It`s by no means perfect, but considering what they had to work with I think they did a really good job.

I don`t think Majima in this game is like Kiryu in the others. Kiryu is a straight laced saint whereas Majima in this is more of a rogue with a heart of gold. They also established in 4 and 5 that the Mad dog thing was an act and I think they did a good job of showing the reasons and thought process that lead Majima to decide to put on the act. He sees Nishitani just having a ton of fun and living the good life as he continues to get played and fucked over by everyone he works with. The mad dog is an act he puts on as an attempt at a defence against getting hurt and to keep people guessing, so that no one can use him.

@ravelle: he pretty much explains it to Awano @01:28:00

Yeah, I watched him explain it two times but it still seems so vague and sudden.

By the way didn't Majima and Mokoto see each other on that roof, when he ran up the building after seeing her stand there? I believe she had her sight back by then.

Makoto hadn`t regained full functionality in her eyes at that point. She only saw people as outlines. There is a shot where you she Majima from her perspective and he is only a black outline against the sky.

As for his decision I don`t think it`s that vague. He kinda explains it a bit more when he talks to Sagawa later. It`s also a decision he makes after having considered it for a bit. He starts going down that path after he realized Shimano had also played him for the whole game.

This game has such an amazing ending. Thank you so much to all the guys and especially Alex for spearheading this series. I love both the video game series and the video series and I hope you guys get the urge to play through Kiwami at some point. It`s really nice to see a series that has been overlooked for so long get some love.

Dan is right. Pickles are terrible and permanently ruin any food they touch.

I would really like to you guys get the hidden fourth styles from finishing the business sidequests before you go onto the end game.

This is a general response to people asking them to get the fourth style and not you specifically. I feel like getting the fourth style is a good way to make them burn out on Yakuza and make them leave this game on a down note. Finishing the businesses are going to take 6-8 hours each. That`s 3-4 episodes (1 month in real time) just to get one of the styles and while they are neat the combat is already their least favorite part of the game and they won`t have much time to use them even if they do end up liking them.

From my understanding Kiryu also gets the fourth style in Kiwami, so they will end up getting to try out that style eventually anyway without having to grind the real estate for hours to get it.

@crimsonjesus: You only play as Kiryu in Yakuza 6. I like the multiple playable characters in these games, but I am glad that they didn`t continue to escalate that aspect of the series. I love Yakuza 5 (a LOT), but one my gripes with that game is that even for as long as it is having 5 characters meant that it didn`t have time to let each story breathe and fully develop. I think they way they have handled it in 0 is actually my favorite so far. Having two protagonists let them change thinks up, but they also have enough time to fully develop complete stories and arcs for the both protagonists.

I would recommend finishing out the story next episode. The story has got such a momentum at this point that it would be too bad to put the brakes on it. The final chapter is a long one, so you will probably have to dedicate the whole episode to it.

If you guys feel like you want to afterwards you guys can go into Adventure mode and finish up any side stuff you wanna check out. There is not really anything vital left though. As others have mentioned there are a couple of funny sidestories (though no the best) and some that feature characters that appear in later games. While I enjoyed those I don`t know if they will play for people who are not familiar with the characters. They are more like fun in-jokes/references for fans of the series.

There are some other neat side stuff, but most of it like the pocket car racing and the businesses require a lot of grinding. There is also something to be said for going out on a high note (the ending is real good) and getting a good, long break before Kiwami (if the guys are planning to play). Even as a super fan playing too much Yakuza or playing them back to back will lead to burnout.

And yeah. When you get to the point of no return (it`s marked clearly) you guys should go to the drugstore with both characters and fill your inventory with the best healing items. Getting stuck in the last few fights without healing items would be pretty bad.

And yeah. Watch the credits all the way through.
