Yes, time, of course, seems to be the main factor. There is just so much going on, so many distractions and "must-see shows" or whatever.

I love games and I'm interested enough in how they work and play that I end up wasting a lot of money on games I will barely play two hours of. This is something I've thought about a lot recently and I have to get better at that. That means also being able to identify the games I know I'm going to stay longer with and invest only in those. I've two kids and live in Brazil so there's less time for games and they are also more expensive. So those are serious limitations that I need to consider.

For some reason I'm being very partial to my Vita recently, where there's a great catalogue of classic and indie games that I can comfortably play in bed. On the PC I'm going for more and more turn-based games that move at a slower pace, those work great when you have kids.

So my conclusion is that I actually need to change my buying habits more, to adapt to my current playing habits. Shouldn't waste money.

Just wondering because there's been no quick look, no review, no comments anywhere (I think). Was a bit disappointed by that, I believe this is one of the best games to come out this year. If there's been discussion about it I'd love to hear it.

Wait, what ? Are you serious ? OF COURSE it will continue and OF COURSE it will remain great. I can't imagine anything would piss Ryan off more than the site going away because of this. It's pretty horrible to lose Ryan Davis, but what about losing the Bombcast, losing Jeff, Brad, Patrick, Alex, Vinny, Rorie ? I don't see a chance of this happening.

This site has a lot of love, silliness and hard work built into it over the last 5 years. It works because folks love the people involved, not only the videogames they talk about. Which makes Ryans passing so devastating. But in the end, Giant Bomb will survive, it will become even better and will remain being the greatest videogame website ever made.

I managed to finally play the tutorial, froze on the city loading screen when I get back to the tutorial city (after you visit the other city in the region and it is bombarded by asteroids). Got back in, did the whole tutorial again, this time it worked, tried to start my first city, got disconnected from server. Since you can't switch servers without quitting the game (why ?), I quit, booted the game again and...back to the tutorial screen. Looked at the screen in disbelief, quit the game, will get back to it after the weekend to check if this joke is finally over and I can play the damn thing.

Let us learn a lesson here, next time a single-player game is online-only, LET'S NOT BUY IT. The servers will then work fine, without any load on them, but EA won't be that happy. As it is now, they have my money already.

Bought it yesterday, but couldn't "claim a city", haven't even played the tutorial yet, but I admit I haven't tried too much. Will wait a week or so, should be better then (I hope).

This is really sad, I bet the people who worked on this for years are pretty down right now. It's not their fault this happened. We all know whose fault it is.

Makes me realize that launch dates for these "always-online" games just mean that you have to add a week to that launch date to consider playing it.

"Always online" is the result of a business decision, it won't go away. But they can't afford for this to be the scenario on every launch. I wonder if publishers could do it differently in the future, where folks would be able to play offline at first and patches with the online requirement would be applied gradually to accounts so that server structure could handle it. If that was clear when I was buying the game, I wouldn't mind it as much. Not sure if that could even be done.

One would think a PR person, of all people, would know better.

One of my favourites, yes. Wondering if I can install this on my netbook...no CD drive. Isn't there a digital download version for this ?

Ok, I downloaded the mobile version, yes. I've changed the resolution of the downloaded files and that made the video work but it's still kinda choppy in some spots and the audio volume is way low. I'll mess a bit to see if I can find a good configuration for my crappy phone. Anyway, thanks everyone for the input. Cheers.

So, I downloaded a couple of Quicklooks from the site and transfered them via USB to my Nokia E63. When I tried to watch them, it only played back the audio. I've played back other mp4 videos on my phone, but they were all recorded by the phone, never tried to transfer video to the device before.
Any ideas why this could be ? Thanks.

They became helpful in my endgame. I was going for the Domination Victory and since I had enough gold to buy alliance from all City States in my continent, they helped me out with units and killing off some enemy units as well. They even conquered one of the enemy cities, making my job even easier. Still wonder how effective they will be when I try other victory conditions, but so far, so good...
