@josh_bernal: I do love it when folks try to pass off their opinion as what “the fans want”. It is the sign of a substantive opinion that has a lot of careful thought behind it.

@juggaloacidman: the anchor boss is a pain in the ass. Just like every boss that can kill you by making you fall off a cliff. It was easy to see what needs to be done, but annoying to execute.

@ratamero: they should spend the entire month of December in the Bay Area for my entertainment! And Alex should drum for 24 hours so I can enjoy him suffering through that!

Its almost like people don’t read between the lines when it comes to this GOTY stuff. Vinny said that two weeks out west wasn’t manageable the last time around. They had less time, by choice. Jeff has a kid and a massive sinus infection. Brad too.

Voicing disappointment is fine. But acting like this is some plan to screw over GOTY or that the crew doesn’t care is just silly. This is nothing more than end of year crunch running into the reality that the site is run by humans who can get sick and have families. They are not here to dance for our entertainment at the expense of their other obligations(to family and health).

Seriously, my job couldn’t get me to work with a sinus infection.

Sorry, Dan. Only Jeff can pull off the 8.8 effect.

I figured by watching the special quick look that the game wasn't a huge improvement over the original. With that said, many websites including Gamespot gave it rave reviews.

Why is it sad they had a different experience with the game? Its not bad to have different opinions on a game.

Having to set the game to easy just to beat the game in time for review seems to go against the spirit of Xcom. It just doesn't seem like a Dan kind of game, I know he really only got serious about pc gaming a little over a year ago. Xcom is a kind of game where its standard to start over several times to learn all the mechanics.

As for the performance issues, lowering your AA to FXAA and turning depth of field off seems to help a lot.

What does PC gaming have to do with this? XCOM 2 is technically a PC-exclusive, but just like Enemy Unknown it's entirely built like a console game intended to be played on a controller. Take a look at older turn-based PC games. There's inventory systems, big expansive maps that you roam around in and loot, manual aiming, and ability to crouch or go prone for better aiming. XCOM has a maximum 3 items you can take into battle. On the ground, maps are only used for battle. The only looting is when your enemy occasionally drops something with a timer. Only grenades have manual aim. Crouching is automatic when you're against cover and gives you no aim bonus. Forget about going prone ever. XCOM is great but it's very much a console-style game.

From someone who played the original X-com back when it first came out, a lot of the stuff you talked about is just old, outdated design that has no place in a mass market, multi-million dollar game. Manually crouching is not a PC feature. All of the old stuff in X-com isn't a product of PCs, its a product of an old game.

Wow, really nice to see this not getting a rubber stamp here like it is everywhere else. It's odd and somewhat disconcerting to watch how gamers and game journalists pick one title to love despite its technical flaws and one title to hate solely due to its technical flaws (however minor they might actually be). PC gamers especially are normally the ones running for pitchforks immediately at the smallest technical flaw. I can only imagine what would have happened if this game had been cross platform and the PC port was released in this state.

If you read the thread, not everyone experienced them. Reviews are just the summation of the reviewers experience.

@tennmuerti: They are super bad on my system for no reason. The game is actively on fire in many ways.
